Like ignoring the Christmas present and bitching about the wrapping, I know...
I see that MLB is breaking out it's Player Nickname Uniforms tonight in the Phils-Metropolitans game. Whee. Aaron Nola's nickname is "Nols", Jason Vargas' nickname is "Vargy" and Gabe Kapler's is "Kap". Clev-ver!!!!. Some real headscratching went into those bon mots.
They did this last year and we all know why, money. A question for you yahoos who live in big league cities. Did you see anyone with a nickname jersey after last year's debacle? I can't imagine any Phillies fan shelling out $150 for a "Nols" jersey. I could be wrong.

Hmmmm..... Isn't this game being played in Williamsport, PA to promote the Little League World Series (which I love). I.E.- it's all about the kids, families, times that were more simple - i.e. fireworks and good ole American Apple Pie? Why such a 'Grumpy Gus'?

They will be doing this all week, or at least the weekend. It happened last year. And if you think there are noble motives in MLB's heart, I have some wonderful beachfront property in Montana you might be interested in. Every year, there are more weekends with the clown suits and less with the regular unis.

you don't like the Little League World Series? it's sad when i travel thoughout the Philly, Jersey, DE, Maryland area - it's summer - baseball fields are empty. don't know about you - when i was a kid - when school let out - i went out on my bike the crack of dawn and spent my entire day on my bike, a baseball diamond or basketball court and didn't return home until the moon was out. have had this discussion with people all summer. every baseball diamond is empty. it's sad. it's summer. they're empty. anything the MLB can do to 'try' and rope kids and families in - i'm all for it.

It's not that big of a deal today, but it's going to be awful this coming weekend.
And is it really going to bring if fans to see "The Toddfather" at 3rd rather than "Frazier"?

Fans would buy uniforms smeared with bull excrement if the club labeled them "special edition."

The only thing close to a nickname jersey I’ve ever seen here in Philly were Carlos Ruiz jerseys with his nickname Chooch on them. I think that predated this new fad.
