News report: "and the victims were taken to local hospitals." Well, of course the hospitals were local. They're not gonna take them to hospitals 2,000 miles away.
[Player x] has officially signed with the team. As opposed to, you know, unofficially signing.

Utilize. What can you say with "utilize" that you can't say with "use"?

Depending on context: "Actually", "personally", "really", and "basically".
Words I use all the time. I have a bad habit of watering down my sentences with them.

"It's a very real problem." How can you get more real than "real'? Is "very real" more real than "real"?

"Literally." Even worse when said by British speakers, who pronounce it as "lih-trully." And they seem to say it in virtually (not lih-trully) every conversation. It's almost always used incorrectly.

You're right, people use the word "literally" incorrectly very often and it figuratively gets on my nerves.

You don't need the word dollars if you already have the corresponding currency symbol in place.

slightly pregnant or very pregnant - there's no degrees of pregnancy … either pregnant or not pregnant ! Thomas Jefferson, his own self, has been criticized for just that sort of thing in his dream of "a more perfect union."

I didn't realize I was doing that until I started using message boards and read what I type before posting. Sometimes I wonder if U.S. Southerners do it more than in other regions. All The Pretty Horses has Lucas Black using the phrase "...killed him graveyard dead."
As Firesign Theater used to say, "brought to you by the Department of Redundancy Department."

you're supposed to do that ?
I kinda like "graveyard dead". It's literary-ish !
reminds me of: As Coroner I must aver, I thoroughly examined her. And she's not only merely dead, she's really most sincerely dead.
