I saw a dude wearing this T-shirt the other day. I like the Yankees but I don't get it. He didn't get any rings. (I don't live anywhere near NY so I really and seriously doubt he was ever a player. Besides, he was at a bus stop.) So why get excited over something awesome someone else gets? I understand it's a way of bragging rights and that shirt isn't for me. So why have that kind of foolish pride?

So should any fan have pride in the team's success, even for years before they were born?
And you realize that in this context, rings is shorthand for championships?

I get it that it's a way to celebrate a team's success. Just seems like an odd way to do it over something one will never have themselves. That shirt makes it seem like as if the wearer has a ring when they don't. Like I am a really big fan of the art of Van Gogh. When I hear of someone who gets one of his paintings at an auction, I don't feel excited for the buyer when I wish I had the money to buy it myself.

You should've walked up to him and said, "No, and neither do the Yankees recently."

OP is a Packers fan, so with every passing year he has to convince himself that rings aren’t all that important.
