I was just reading the thread about Beauty and the Beast now being a 7.9 on IMDb and about how some people will troll vote a film. Likewise some fanatics will give it a 10 just because they love it.
So do you think in the long run IMDb will end up closing off ratings to members as well, and then perhaps bin the reviews?
That way they can control the whole lot and not have to worry about anything at all.

Probably. At some point the socialist goose stepping hypocrite Jeff Bozos will probably use all the info from amazon and imdb to harass and condemn anyone who dares think for themselves or have an opinion that doesn't fall in line with his agenda. Burning the worlds most popular movie message boards to the ground out of spite and fear of discerning opinions is the first step on a slippery slope.
The fascist nutcase is stockpiling an armada of drones and he has all the info he needs on all the lazy lemmings in North America and beyond. It would make a hard to believe but terrifying horror movie and it's real.

Sadly enough, there are probably still many people who care about it. Probably quite a large number who are happy about the boards being gone as well.

That scaly bastard won't last very long in the heat signature coming our way. Or the positive vibrations heading in from beyond the Oort Cloud. Good times ahead. Jeff Bezos is toast. History. Fucking off and dying to our delight. Watch.

I don't see any improvement in IMDB, the website is still stuck in 2004.

I don't see any improvement in IMDB, the website is still stuck in 2004. Those were better times. The world's gone to shit. Remember when Arabs were normal? Well I mean, they were never normal, but there was a time they had those palaces with bellydancers and flew around on carpets. Now they're just blowing shit up and trying to impersonate alien reptiles with some vendetta against all of us who kicked their asses in ancient Greece. Not to mention they're still pissed about that whole Jacob thing and the fact we weren't hunted and ravaged when Genghis Khan torn them all a new asshole.

They should probably reconsider their rating algorithm. I've always felt that their ratings should be center-weighting, meaning that a 5 has more weight than a 10 or 1. This would at least mediate the influence of fanboys and trolls alike.
Or, they could create an algorithm that takes demographics into consideration. Right now, a rating on IMDb is way too white-male oriented. A better ratings score should take gender, age, and maybe a few other things into account.
I'm not, as is probably obvious, a mathematician, so I'm sure there are flaws in my suggestions, but I do think IMDb could create an algorithm that better accounts for fanboys and trolls. Nolan is a decent director, but his films are extraordinarily overrated on that site.
I sometimes wonder how movies in the 80s would be ranked had IMDb existed then. Would Top Gun, for instance, have gone into the top 50 like almost every big-budget movie does today? Or did people in the '80s have a different perspective on what is popular vs what is good?
It seems like IMDb ratings in the late '90s better reflected the quality of the films rather than their popularity, although even then I do remember when Star Wars was ranked #9.
In November, my account turns 18! It's sad that I won't have anyone there to celebrate with.

I don't see any improvement in IMDB, the website is still stuck in 2004. What does this mean? What is a 2017 website vs a 2004 website? Probably unrelated, but I actually prefer the low tech websites of the early 2000s. They didn't have any video to slow down my browsing experience or cause my conputer's fans to go into warp speed. I miss the old Yellow and Blue IMDb design. It was so much easier to use and more attractive. And you didn't have an ugly wrap-around banner ad. The year they introduced that feature sucked!

I've been hiding out in the land of Hyrule myself. It has been shielded nicely in the Bermuda Triangle and I just kinda look at the whole imdb thing as the fail that it is with such knots running their show. They are so off center.

Probably not because the only thing that brought attention to the troll votes or the voting system being rigged were people who brought it to the attention to other posters by POSTING IT ON THE BOARDS. So, now that the boards have shut down, nobody can alert the public about potential rigged voting system. I really think that the entertainment community had a lot of influence over what is being published on imdb. It's a shame too because that new Beauty and the Beast movie is god AWFUL. Maybe we all should go back to imdb even if it is to vote or post a sincere review. We cannot allow injustice to prevail. Why should movie studios be able to get away with making these stupid movies for profit?

If that happens, what's the point of visiting IMDb?
