So Chuck, about your novel Fight Club. Why is it so terrible?

Read one of his short stories - most puerile picee of shit I've ever read. Never again.

I have a friend who's a big fan and has several of his books (some which were gifts from me, knowing that she liked him). I think I've only read one of his books (don't remember the title) and wasn't particularly impressed (didn't hate it either).

Picked up one of his books at a library sale last year (I don't even recall the title) and didn't even make it to the end of the first chapter. Just another one in an ever-growing list of contemporary authors who make me suspect nepotism must be running amok in the publishing industry, because I'm hard put to understand how many of these 'authors' ended up with careers otherwise.
OTOH, when you look at the rise of fanfic and the fact that some of its' worst offenders are making megabucks off of crap no major publisher in their right minds would have touched with a stick even a couple of decades ago, maybe the success of a Palahniuk isn't as hard to comprehend. An audience of readers with no standards makes it a lot easier for his ilk to launch their careers.

I read Fight Club because I love the movie. Book wasn't as good, but the seeds were there.
If you like being disturbed, read his short story Guts.
