Without the cloak of faith how do non religious people come to terms with a sudden death close to them? Many of us just recognize that bad things simply happen, and for reasons that have nothing to do with any higher purpose or power.

the question should be how does a religious person deal with senseless, tragic death? [think of edith and when her friend is murdered.] the non religious just shrug and while sheading a tear, say: see? god doesn't exist. point proven.

'Tragic' and 'senseless' are human created concepts, and both are relative.

That certainly isn’t a teaching in any Bible I’ve read.

Without the cloak of faith how do non religious people come to terms with a sudden death close to them? There’s no easy answer to that for anyone. It’s going to be a long, painful mourning period regardless of if you have faith or not. The best thing you can do is to honor that person’s memory in the way that most suits you. Depending on how they died (tragic shooting, leukemia, etc) taking up a cause is often a good coping mechanism for some people. Bringing awareness of certain conditions, raising money for medical research, or lobbying to have laws changed are some things people do to satisfy their desire to ensure that their loved ones didn’t die in vain.

Generally, when someone I know dies, I go round their gaff and lay claim to all their good shit.

Same way a Christian deals with the death of a nonbeliever.

Pour a little out and try to move on. There's no easy way to cope with the death of a loved one.

But I've had family members, when their mother (my grandmother) suffered through a slow painful death, renounce God.
