See what I mean? People still believe this bullshit. I see you didn't choose the part in my post about Herb Brooks being a "foul mouthed individual". The type of foul mouth that would instantly give a movie an R-rating. Disney, the last time I checked, doesn't release R-rated movies with their logo on it. I didn't say 100 percent true. That's what documentaries are supposed to be for. More like about 1% true. Good enough for you, eh?

When a movie/TV show is "based on a true story/true events/", I think people know by now some scenes and characters are reimagined for dramatic purposes. People complaining about the dramatic presentation of real events when they're different from the way the experienced them is going to come with the territory.

"People complaining about the dramatic presentation of real events"
No 'real events' were depicted. It was literally all made up by Disney to present a racial morality tale that in fact, never happened. My personal recollection has nothing to do with it.
The school was already integrated - the protests over black kids attending the school never happened. ALL the schools they played were already integrated. - there was no big speech about "other schools not having our problem". There was no racist coach who tossed a banana to Boone - it never happened. Two big high schools were combined, which resulted in some tension over competition for spots on the teams and a popular coach being replaced and they knew combining two large high schools would create a sports powerhouse, it had nothing to do with overcoming racism. There was no big speech in the Civil War graveyard about unity - it never happened. That's just off the top of my head. At what point does it no longer represent a "fact based" tale?
There are about ten thousand other made-up points, but I'm not going to bother looking them up. And what would be the point? You're just going to carry on believing your little fantasy world regardless.

I thought it was good, regardless of how historically accurate it might or might not be.

It was okay but predictable - but I remember thinking: This is bullshit. High schools were integrated in the early 1960's, not '71. I WAS IN high school in the early 70's and I didn't remember any racial stuff going on. There was some of course, but not like the movie portrayed it. Sure enough, I looked into the "true story" claim and I was right - it was all made-up Disney bullshit. They took the very basics of truth - there really was a high school team that went undefeated in '71 named the Titans - and made up a racial morality tale that never happened. A bit more jaded, a bit wiser. Integration started in some places during the 40s and 50s. The 60s is where everywhere that didn't wanna budge was forced to

I was giving my thoughts on a movie based on true events- not the actual events! If I'm ever doing a trivia night and a question comes up about Remember the Titans, I'll answering knowing that outside of the teams undefeated season, and some of the individuals involved, it's still a dramatic presentation of events. I'm not in a rush to find out about the real events. And for the record, I didn't respond to your first message on this thread. But you knew that already, amirite?

The "Based on a True Story" tagline is just used to sell the movie. It means almost nothing and should be ignored. I much prefer when a movie says, "Inspired by true events."

The problem is, people believe it. Just read the reviews on IMDb. EVery other nitwit thinks it's simply wonderful because it's "a true story!" Usually followed by a few OMG's!!!
They did the same with Argo, and that pile of piffle even won an AA. Ben Assflex was peddling his bull on every talk show out there as "a true story!"
Sure thing Ben. Except for all the baloney you made up to insert the American CIA as heroes.
Why is it so hard to simply admit it's a made up fairy tale? Nothing wrong with either movie - no need to embellish by tricking the dunces into believing it was a true story.

The problem is, people believe it. What other people believe is none of my business. Right, history don't matter. Who cares about facts and truth? Just make them up to suit whatever narrative you're trying to peddle. We most certainly live in an era where truth and reality are completely irrelevant to the average person. I'm not so sure that's a good thing.

People should know better then to believe movies. I just don't give a shit basically. I am not saying you don't have a point, I'm just saying I don't care.

"Right now, there is a whole, an entire generation that never knew anything that didn't come out of this tube. This tube is the Gospel. The ultimate revelation! This tube can make or break Presidents, Popes, Prime Ministers. This tube is the most awesome, god-damn force in the whole godless world.
And when the twelfth largest company in the world controls the most awesome, god-damn propaganda force in the whole godless world, who knows what shit will be peddled for truth on this network." (Network)

Yes, people are gullible and the media takes advantage of that gullibility. Should movies keep to the facts more? Yes. Should movies say based on a true story? No. I am just saying that it doesn't bother me because I know not to believe it. If people want to know about facts, they should do research. Movies are fiction. Movies have no responsibility to be factually accurate imo. People have to be smart enough to figure that out by themselves.

What are your thoughts and opinions on "Remember The Titans"? I personally loved it, but feel the racial tension was almost non existent. Also, wasn't there a character pretty much openly gay that everyone seemed fine with? There really was a mixed race football team that had an unbeatable season like that and even winning it all. However there was no racial tension at all during their amazing season since integration had already happened by the time they played. And that is what I really hate about this movie. How they fictionalized that part just to throw some drama in there. The screenwriter was black so he throws in that stuff plus shows how racist he is towards whites. For example, having a white kid play country music he likes with the black kid putting it down. Then later on having the same white kid put himself down by calling himself, "White trash." Yes, all the white kids are the dumb clowns and ALL the blacks are perfect and not one thing is wrong with ANY of them. That racism also goes to that kid you mentioned who is gay. The back up QB they call "Sunshine." He kisses on the lips the star defensive white player and by the time they get back to town from training camp it's all forgotten about. No how, no way would that really happen. Sunshine would never be able to live that down during all of the rest of his HS days. I used to love the movie. Even bought it. Then when I saw it for what it really is as I described, I broke it and threw it in the trash which is what it is. A garbage movie.

I'm a fan of non-fiction so I really hate it when they heavily fictionalize and manipulate a true story as in this case. I just re-watched the last few minutes of Serpico and that movie pretty much follows the source material from the book and that is how I prefer it. I know they have to change some things around to make it all fit or to get the scene and story across but as long as a lot of it really is true, that is what I prefer.
