In general, what is more offensive to you:
Abortions, gay sex, or Muslims? Of the three things, which do you find yourself thinking about/obsessing over the most?

Of course abortion is the most offensive although I have no reason to think about it much unless it's a topic such as in this thread.

Is this a trick question....? I don't know about a trick, but it's safe to assume any conversation with Bryce is going to wind up being a joke.

Couldn't possibly care less about gay sex. As for abortion I would rather see people choose contraception so it can be as rare as possible. I'd rather see women supported through an unwanted pregnancy and a child put up for adoption. That's my personal choice, but I don't think I or the law should make it for anybody else. Muslims-I see them as any other folks. There are some who are wonderful, most are ordinary people (good and bad) and some dangerous or evil

Though than denomination means next to nothing to me as compared to being a Christian in general.

Yes. Though than denomination means next to nothing to me as compared to being a Christian in general. No, but it does inform your answer. I believe the other poster who replied in the same way was also Catholic. So I probably should have specified in the thread “non-Catholic Christians”.

What do you imagine the Catholic church taught that influenced what I said (that would be different from other Christian denominations)?

What do you imagine the Catholic church taught that influenced what I said (that would be different from other Christian denominations)? Well, the Catholic Church teaches that abortion is a sin (along with contraceptives), but also that their are different levels of sins (some being worse than others) etc. So there are some doctrinal differences from regular Christianity that would probably bias you against abortion. Which is why I asked that after the first two posters answered with abortion.

I wasn't going with the standard ideology and teachings of the church and I never called it a sin. I thought pro choice would have stuck out. Who do you think I answered in a similar way to? I've never met a Catholic who has spoken against contraception use.

I would expect a Catholic to consider abortion a worse sin than homosexuality or blasphemy.

Hence my confusion at being lumped there. bryce and people like him often think Christians only look at right in wrong in terms of sin rather than something being wrong or favoring better options. His question should have included the notion of sin in the first place and he may have gotten different response considering abortion sucking has little to do with religion imo.

Well that is how most Christians look at it. Because that’s what the bible teaches, and it’s generally how they craft their arguments. You may be among the minority in trying to separate morality and sin. But to most Christians, they are one in the same. And I say this as a former Christian myself.
