this stuff from japan is great! I've seen that locally, Nuts. I may have to give it a try. I wonder how long before the Double Bastard is on the shelves again??

nutsberryfarm π: I was looking for the one in your picture today (the Rasputin Russian Imperial Stout), couldn't find it, but found this Polish Porter instead. Will open it later, but it looks pretty tasty:

Opened up a bottle of Curmudgeon's Better Half last night. What a beer! Smoothest beer ever... goes down like butter. Tasting notes: vanilla, caramel, maple syrup, oak. Even though it's aged in whiskey barrels, it actually tastes more like Rum to me. It's actually quite sweet too but not cloying.

Nice body, but way too sweet. It's like somebody came along and put a dollop of sugar syrup in a bottle of perfectly good porter. Just not my style. Oh well. Better luck next time. lol

Absolutely. I mean, it wasn't horribly sweet, just too sweet for what I want in a Porter. But yeah, I could see cooking with it if nothing else.

nutsberryfarm π: tried some Stone Brewing Scorpion Bowl IPA over the last couple of days (bought a bomber bottle, drank half one night, and the other half the next night). Man, they must put some amped-up hops in that brew, because I had me some weird dreams both nights after drinking that stuff. lol
It's pretty tasty, though. Give it a shot if you find it:

I will. A pal sent me some of Quint's favorite beer from back east.

Guinness
What I typically do, though, is alternate Guinness with various microbrewery beers--the liquor stores near me always have some weird beer that I never heard of and never tried before. Occasionally I'll alternate some other well-known beer with Guinness, but I normally alternate beers I never had before.

My #1 son like beer as hoppy and bitter as he can get it. He will always order an IPA or double or triple IPA if it is available. The only IPA I really like is Ballast Point Sculpin IPA.
Me, I like beers more on the malty, sweet side. A porter with coffee and chocolate notes are perfect.
New Belgium Abbey has come up a couple of times on this thread. It is truly a great one. Many of my favorites are brewed either in Colorado or New Mexico.
Old Chubb Scotch Ale Spaten Optimator (doppelbock) Abbey Belgian Style Ale, Dubbel (New Belgium) Dead Guy Ale (Rogue Ales) Marble Red Ale State Pen Porter (Santa Fe Brewing) Nitro Milk Stout (Left Hand Brewing) Portage Porter (New Belgium) 1554 Black Lager (New Belgium)

It's definitely on the malty, sweet side:
