Kes isn't on the poll? That's a great film. I voted for OHMSS. My favourite Bond film. It's set during christmas, which makes it unique, as it's the first film in the series to be set during the festive period.

For about the fifth time in over 80 years, I'd say the Academy got it right.
"Midnight Cowboy"

Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid nothing else is even close. Nonsense! There were many terrific films released in 69' as the poll will attest too. It is not as though BC&TSK was a monumental achievement that stood head and shoulders above the rest. If you feel that it does, I would love to hear some informed and lucid reasons why?
For its raw humanity and emotional impact, I rate Midnight Cowboy as the best, but I wouldn't say that the other releases pale in comparison.

For about the fifth time in over 80 years, I'd say the Academy got it right."Midnight Cowboy" What are the other choices Mr. Dirty? One year I am torn over is 75', but ultimately, I know that One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest was the best choice over Jaws. I also like that All About Eve won for 50'; The Deer Hunter for 78'; Ordinary People for 80; Terms Of Endearment for 83', Amadeus for 84'; Out Of Africa for 85', Platoon for 86', Dances With Wolves for 90; Silence Of The Lambs for 91. There are also other years that I am content with, but anything up until pretty much the 70's, I would have see more of to make a more informed opinion.
I am pleased that Midnight Cowboy won for 69' in year of classics and it was in a sense for it's time, a bold and brave move by the Academy. As time will also attest, it has also lost none of its emotional impact today and the film-making technique is not caught up in a zeitgeist style of being trapped from it's era, but embraces the look of the very late 60's, and still has a contemporary feel\approach about it.

Yes, Toasted Cheese, 1975 was a powerhouse year for movies. Any other year, and I'd want to see JAWS get the Oscar. It's one of my all time favorite movies, you just can't go wrong with it, but OFOTCN is just a wee touch more magnetic. And "Dog Day Afternoon" was no slouch whatsoever, and I wouldn't really have been upset if Al Pacino had won Best Actor. Any other year... But never did the Academy get it more right when they awarded Jack and Louise for best actor and best actress. Wow! I looooove Jack in the part and Louise as Nurse Ratched made me see red. I agree with you on "All About Eve", "The Deer Hunter", "Ordinary People" (I did not care for "Raging Bull" at all) and "Terms of Endearment". I would also go along with "West Side Story" (1961) and "Annie Hall" (1977). I love what you said that "Midnight Cowboy" embraces the look of the very, very late 60s (almost couldn't be from any other year except 1969) I wish that "A Streetcar Named Desire" had won in 1951.
