^ I don't even understand the need for the fur coat. It's almost like the people in charge specifically wanted to make her look like a hooker. Why the hell would you want to fight crime in a fur coat? And yeah, it's not because she's black (though if racial diversity was really their goal I don't understand why they didn't simply go for a latina with a natural bronze-ish skin tone) but because her whole 'look' is just plain bad. And yes, I do feel bad for Diop because none of this is her fault but she's the one who'll be taking the brunt of criticisms. They stated that they weren’t necessarily going for diversity. They reportedly allowed a number of actresses of different racial and ethnic backgrounds to audition for the role, and they settled on Diop. Ok... for some reason I'm having a hard time believing that but ok.

Yeah what a coincidence that when the black titan isn't allowed n the show they just happen to cast a black actress in another major role, I mean what are the odds?
Im all for bullshit and flim flam but come one people be creative with your creative truths don't be so bloody obviously full of manure.

That particular coat, those particular boots, that particular hair style and color, the cleavage, it all adds up to kinda make her look like she's a streetwalker. I'm sorry, but it just does. If that's NOT representative of the character then why did they choose to show it on the official image?
And worse, what happens if the show comes out and SHE IS a street walker in the show? WTF then?
In her tweet she claims she realizes that fans have been waiting for months to see what she'll look like. I've been waiting for YEARS! October 1980 (DC Comics Presents #26). The character is literally older than the actress playing her. When you're doing a character that has that long of a body of source material (she's even had her own ongoing series!), especially if you're doing that character for the first time in live action, you do the character justice. You don't turn her into a street walker for no reason.
I'll be glad if I'm wrong.

He’s set to make his debut on Doom Patrol before joining the Titans on their show.

Ok... for some reason I'm having a hard time believing that but ok. The casting calls specifically said that the role was “open ethnicity”. You could perhaps make the argument that their eventual decision to cast a black actress was partially influenced by her race, but they weren’t auditioning only non-white actresses. Keep in mind that the same casting call even mentions that they were looking for an Asian actor to play Beast Boy, but they didn’t say that they were looking for a black actress to play Starfire.

My understanding was that he was going to cameo on Doom Patrol and that's all. Outside of Teen Titans Go! DC has done everything they possibly can to distance Cyborg from the Titans and Teen Titans and attach him ore to Justice League.
And even if this is true why would you introduce a character on a show he's NOT going to be on and then put him on another show afterwards? That's kinda back asswards. But then that seems par for DC live action.

He’s not going to cameo on the show. He’s supposed to play a key role by being the one who brings the Doom Patrol together. I will acknowledge that there isn’t any official confirmation that he’s going to be an official part of the Titans roster, but given that Doom Patrol is set in the same universe as Titans, that should be a clear indicator that they can in fact use Cyborg.

Yes, I read the article. First, we need to assume that article is actually accurate. Second, even if it is accurate, the casting call itself was open ethnicity but that doesn't mean the people making the decision didn't take race into account. Besides, I'm having trouble consolidating this description of the character With the picture that we just saw of her.

Anna Diop is reasonably tall for a woman, and is considered attractive by a number of people, so that description doesn’t seem especially out of place for her. Anyway, since the casting calls in the article mentioned that they were looking for an Asian actor to play Beast Boy, I’m inclined to think that it probably is true.

Oh I have no problem with Anna Diop. Yes she's tall-ish (taller than me anyway) and attractive in her own right. I wasn't referring to her as a person, I was referring to her picture in costume as the Starfire character. With that costume and makeup and look, she doesn't exactly look like an "elegant, refined, inhumanly beautiful woman".

Perhaps, though that might just be more on the costume and makeup artists, rather than a creative attempt at making the character seem dirty. Of course, I haven’t seen the show yet, so I have no idea how the character is going to be depicted. At the very least, I don’t think she’s meant to be a hooker.

At this point I'm not sure which is worse: That she looks like a hooker because they specifically wrote her to be a hooker, or that she looks completely like a hooker despite not being a hooker.

I think most of us wanted a sexy Starfire. But I don't know if a comic accurate Starfire can be done today. Clearly WB was nervous about it. And it is what it is at this point. Raven is a complete disaster too. Both Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman and even Melissa Benoit's Supergirl is proof that a female superhero can be attractive and sexy without being over-sexualized. I mean, yes we're trying to stay away from making female characters look like nothing more than sex kittens but I do think we still want them to look attractive. After all, we hold the male heroes to a similar standard. Why do you think the male heroes have all of those fake muscles contoured in their suits? Anyway, my point is that they could have at least found a middle-ground between a microkini-wearing Starfire and whatever it is they've given us here. We don't want Starfire to be dressed like a lingerie model but we still do want her to look attractive... and respectable.

And this series’ Starfire is dressed like a prostitute, so it’s actually worse than the original costume.

It keeps getting worse! There she is AGAIN, in the same stupid outfit that was supposedly "taken out of context". Well the context seems to be that she doesn't know what she's talking about, and Starfire is a street walker. Holy shit they got this one wrong. WTF
And while we're at it, why the fuck is Beast Boy not green skinned?

Maybe they aren't using make up to make him green but just going to do so digitally, like they did in Arrow in S4 to the suit, which is a mistake because it looks like shit, but Starfire has no other effects either, isn't she meant to have an orange tint to her and her hair is supposed to be less cheap wig looking?
But yeah she looks fucking horrendous, this maybe the worst image yet of it because more so than ever she looks like a hooker, how short that dress is and it has a huge slit on it, it's just like wtf, Titans is feeling very WWE right now where they do something fans react poorly to it and instead of fixing the problem they just tell us no you just don't get it we are right and then double down on the shit the fans are against, and that's fucking stupid.

I can't wrap my head around the possibility that there's a room out there somewhere where the director, producer and other executives of this show are looking at this picture and going, "Yep, that's exactly how we wanted these characters to look. That's our vision right there."

Anybody remember that movie Mystery Men? The costume design here’s reminds me of that. I guess they weren’t aware that it was a comedic parody though?

That's our vision right there." I can only imagine that the manifesto for this was that it be more "realistic, gritty, dark" to remove the idea that this is just a little kids Teen Titans Go! stuff. And that might've worked...
But not this. This just doesn't look appealing. Maybe this is just the way some of these characters look in the first episode? I hope?
But I'm sorry, Starfire looks awful and its not the actresses fault. The costume designers and production designers didn't know what to do with that character and this crap is what we got. Though she shouldn't have defended it so vehemently saying that it was taken out of context when in fact its exactly what we saw. She knew better than that. Ugh, she's even going out of her way to show more thigh in the pic too. lol
I know she's a struggling young actress who is trying to break into the business and its hard for women, black women at that, but if Starfire is a streetwalker she shouldn't have accepted the role. Anything would be better than that.
I'm still kind've interested because of the Robin part of the story. I'll wait for dvd though.
