OK, I know this is the wrong board for this (but the TV General board is kind of slow), but everybody: Do yourself a favor and watch ' Legion'!!! After watching the latest episode (7) I'm now convinced it's a masterpiece. If you like the films of Charlie Kaufman, David Fincher, Michel Gondry and David Lynch, you will love this. And I promise you, even if it seems like a crazy surreal psychedelic mess (albeit a very entertaining one) it will make sense (don't give up after the first few episodes). It was created by Noah Hawley who's also responsible for 'Fargo' and was produced by the 'X-Men', 'Deadpool' and 'Logan' producers (which makes sense because it's a Marvel story from the X-Men universe). Sorry, just needed to get this out of my system (the latest episode is simply one of the best I've ever seen, from any TV-show).

It's definitely not boring but the plot had advanced VERY little if any. We still have limited info on the characters and what we do have could very well be false. It seems like every few episodes is the exact same pointless arc that I won't spoil here. Although is it really spoiling since it's that lazy annoying unreliable narrator gimmick that somehow passes as "clever" writing these days?
It looks cool and it's not what anyone expecting a comic book TV show would expect a comic book TV show to be but that in no way makes it a "masterpiece". If you want to give it a lame tagline you could call it "Twin Peaks for comic book characters." And yes I know I paraphrased the idiotic tag Atlanta used for their meandering show.
I would say it's a lot more conducive to smoking a bowl or better yet dropping a hit than getting your drank on. That's a positive thing by the way in my opinion.

Episodes 5 and 7 were simply outstanding. And the plot HAS evolved; every episode has been drilling deeper into David's mind and revealed clue after clue - until the big reveals in Episodes 5 and 7 (especially 7).

Of course you disagree with me. You think it's a masterpiece and I think it's entertaining eye candy that seems to be following the (all too familiar of late) is it real or in his head formula. I nicknamed this type plot "it's all the dream of a little boy" many years ago and it still fits. You think I'm not giving it enough credit and I think you're being hyperbolic but we can both enjoy it for what it is, right?
On a related note (see your subject line) how cool would a sentient pop tart showing up be? Even better, ultra annoying Aubrey Plaza turns into a pop tart and is eaten and we don't have to see her anymore.

I suppose some people would enjoy it, and I gave the first couple of episodes a try, but these heavily non-linear, confusing, everything is a lie kind of narratives are very hard for me to follow and get engaged in. It's a show with an interesting concept, but mostly it just left me with nothing, and no motivation to continue.

I will not be watching any more episodes of this show. There are too many really good series and movies out there for me to bother wasting my time on it. In my humble opinion, current TV series that are "crazy good" include HAP AND LEONARD, FARGO (can't wait for season 3 to arrive), HOMELAND, BIG LITTLE LIES, FEUD, RAY DONOVAN, SHAMELESS and AMERICAN CRIME. I also enjoy GAME OF THRONES, BROADCHURCH, PRIME SUSPECT 1973, THIS IS US and the hilarious VICE PRINCIPALS. But I am happy for you that you are enjoying LEGION. PS. Is that a turd in your hand in your avatar pic gogo? If it is, how the heck can I take someone who craps in their hand seriously?

The visuals have managed to be as unsettling and grotesque as David Lynch and John Carpenter's. I am constantly surprised by Legion's cinematic qualities and willingness to try something new in every episode. It is formally the most ambitious show on TV right now, which explains why a lot of people are turned off by it. I couldn't agree more. Have you already seen ep. 7? I was blown away by it: it's outstanding.

I couldn't agree more. Have you already seen ep. 7? I was blown away by it: it's outstanding. The silent film sequence is one of a kind. Effing amazing! And it didn't feel forced; it unfolded so naturally I only started to notice midway through. And the music nearly put me in a trance. Some of it reminded me of Lynch's 'Lost Highway'.

It's just I'm getting old and the show is not really my thing, but I will agree it is very well made. I'm a huge, huge fan of David Fincher and David Lynch, though. Love their movies, and I like a lot of Charlie Kaufman's stuff too. DEADPOOL is one of the best, most entertaining superhero flicks, I have seen all the X-Men movies and I am really, really looking forward to watching LOGAN. Also, you are not on the wrong board for this thread. More posts like this will help keep Film General alive.

And I agree with you: there are so many above average shows out there right now you really have to pick and choose the ones that are most appealing to you. I was honestly a bit on the fence about 'Legion' until episode 5 which is where it really kicks into high gear, and it was only episode 7 which just completely blew my mind. Btw, 'Hap and Leonard' is also among my faves, can't wait to start season 2 (that show also surprised me when it shifted gears and completely changed the pacing by the time episodes 4 and 5 came around). You'll probably really enjoy 'Logan'; personally I loved it because it's just such a normal, almost "low-key" movie. A simple story with simple characters we really get to care about which are thrown into some less than simple situations (and because they happen to have claws and other superpowers, bloody mayhem ensues ). I really miss the old Film General board (generally the IMDb boards) because you could just pose a question or post a topic and within seconds you got an a response - because there was such a large community of film fans (and I never minded the trolls). If you wanted to know when a review embargo for a film was supposed to lift or get any other kind of info, you had the required answer within minutes. But I like this place so far, and I hope more and more people will eventually make their way here.
