Entertaining but disappointing. Can't put my finger on it but there was something off about how the story was told. Seems to be setup for a sequel which may come depending how well it does. Then again we were never given a sequel to Salt which I liked better and was a hit so who knows.

If they added another 15 minutes of story development it may have helped. There was a little too much shaky cam but overall the action scenes were good.

I am watching it tomorrow (opening day) at 5 PM on the theatre near my work. Looking forward to it. I liked it a lot. Jennifer Garner is a great ass-kicker.

Fun movie, I'd watch a sequel. I do have a few nitpicks: -They guys directly responsible for her family's deaths are killed at the very beginning, essentially offscreen. Those should have been the most powerful deaths in the film. (And we really should've seen the death of the attorney who visited her.)
-It needed more development in between her escape from custody and her return for revenge. How did she acquire these skills? When did she first cross the line into murder?
-If the cop was just going to let her go anyway, why did he bother following her to the grave? You can make the argument he wanted her to survive, but that seems like lazy writing. Have her disappear from the final shootout (like she did) and just end it there. Same ambiguous ending without the pointless hospital scene at the end (and much more metal if you ask me). Those are the things I'd change, otherwise it was fine. The action scenes were enjoyable, though I could've used more. Garner is still a believable action hero and shined throughout, despite the lack of a memorable villain. I'll go 6/10 because when it's fun, it's really fun. It just needed more of what made it that way. My question is, will Sicario 3 be a Peppermint crossover?

There isn't even a release date for OZ of what I can find at this stage. sorry to disappont but its bad. very bad with a very few redeeming qualities. i love jennifer garner and enjoy looking at her and i love revenge flicks but this was bad. i didnt walk out but was close to it and found it boring. BUT i think most of its flaws happened in the editting room. Had it been edited differently and the story told a bit more linear with a bit more traditional set up it could have been an ok B action movie. but this way they took away all the suspense and dramatization and the action was not really impressive neither was the cinematography or music. 3/10 from me, 4 if I want to be extra nice and award Garner for looking good during ass kicking... compared to the Bruce Willis revenge flick this was a big let down. PS - I would have rather rewatched daredevil and electra than see this again. Even though this had one or two fun moments. Overall it was just too boring and stupid. much worse than the brave one.

No. But I've read similar criticisms elsewhere. I get it, but it didn't bother me. I just thought she was a badass shooting people in the face and left the theater pretty happy. that normally happens to me too when i see revenge movies like that but this jist didnt work on me. they milked the dead kid too much and included no humor except in the house of the blond for a quick. jad it had more humor and less visions of dead kids it would have been better too.

Well I really love The Brave One and enjoyed Death Wish with Bruce Willis. I have heard mixed things about Peppermint, so won't venture in with much expectations, but thanks for your take on it Nora. I didn't end up seeing Superfly. It was around for about 2 weeks, but I know you hated that one so didn't bother.
I do feel a bit bad for Garner, because it would have been nice for her to have a bit of a sleeper hit here.

I feel bad for Garner but this movie doesn't look that great. After Proud Mary, I'm not falling for crap like this anymore.

Although this one was SLIGHTLY better than Proud Mary. but not by much. Peppermint has just been released downunder Nora and I just got back. I thought it was actually quite cool. Like Roth's Death Wish, it was a polished B grader and I found it clipped along very nicely and was full of bad ass action. She blew away a lot of scum and I liked the little twist with the police mole. It wasn't who I thought it would be.
I was intrigued throughout the runtime and I thought Garner was quite believable in her kick ass violent role. It started off well and in this instance, the not quite linear story line didn't bother me. I liked Willis in Death Wish and I don't feel this is any worse or any better. There was definitely a higher body count in Peppermint as well. A nice surprise for me for near the end of the year, which has been full of many duds.

Its her face. It does it for me. She has this insanely attractive combination of total fragility and toughness in it.

As soon as it began, it got me intrigued and I have always had a thing for vigilante justice films. I guess because the moral grounding gets blurred and distorted in the conflict of the protagonists dilemma, which makes them anti-heroes. Morals are suddenly rendered obsolete. Would we do what they do, as we would likely feel the same way as them?
They could be considered no better than the criminals they are hunting down, but by that same token, they have the audience on their side, not to mention those that are emphatic in the establishment portrayed on screen.

Another reason to follow her to the grave was to make sure she was alright, since she had been shot.
