Just watched this...
Yeah, not a big fan. The evil child thing has been done a lot better.
5/10 being generous.

Pity, I thought it was a good film with a great performance by the kid.

Love it. I didn't see the twist coming at all.

Love it. I didn't see the twist coming at all. I wish I hadn't read the plot summary at wikipedia before seeing it.

I think they did a decent spin on the evil child thing. Also, had great atmosphere and a increasingly erratic Vera Farmiga. 7/10.

I enjoyed it. It's very stupid, but it ends up being pretty fun.
The thing is the movie initially presents itself as a creepy slow burn sort of thoughtful and unnerving thriller with a modicum of class... and then it goes fully trashy by the end, and even though it's totally dumb that shift was pretty entertaining to me.

It's not bad. I'm a sucker for killer kid movies, so I enjoyed it.

Another fan of the flick here. I also thought the main character was excellent in the movie

I made my own thread on this movie, actually. I love it. I do too. We own it on DVD and have re-watched it a few times and I think it was a good movie. I knew there was something weird about Esther from the start but couldn't believe she was a 33 year old psychopath pretending to be a little girl at the end of it and while it may have been done in other movies I hadn't seen a movie where it had been when I saw it the first time so it was a real surprise to me.

I don’t think it had been done before. Great twist. I remember seeing the trailer for it at the theater and when it said “you’ll never guess Esther’s secret” I said to myself “Yeah right! She probably has a split personality or something unoriginal and stupid like that”, but I was wrong.

When I first saw the trailer I was expecting it to be similar to 'The Omen' movies with the young girl turning out to be the daughter of Lucifer or having demonic powers but I was pleasantly surprised by the twist and I looked up the actress (Isabelle Fuhrman) after watching the movie to see how old she was 'cause I thought she actually was 33 in real life too but she wasn't and I think she did a really convincing job of pulling that off at the end.

Yeah I thought that as well and expected a mediocre at best generic evil kid movie, but it ended up being really good and “Esther’s secret” was actually totally unpredictable and original.

It has been a while since I have seen it. I can't quite remember what her end goal was, I remember her making a pass at the dad, was her goal to replace the wife and be the new "wife" of the family?
What was her goal? I forget.

Outside of the actress playing Ester and the twist (the one original thing about the film), didn't much care for it. Unlikable characters, generic scares (there was no one behind her in the mirror, and now there is!), etc.

I loved this movie! I agree about the unlikable family, especially the mom and the boy. The deaf daughter was ok and I really liked the dad. Mom was slappable and the boy deserved whatever Essie dished out.
Freaking loved the blacklight paint. (How was that done before, people?)
However, this does prove what I (and others) say re: adopting any child from Russia. they are either psycho (unfortunately) or developmentally delayed (or both).
