I don't like this technique either, though I thought it worked quite well in Dangerous Liaisons.

I worked well for Jane Austen in her early short work "Lady Susan" which was made into a 2016 film titled "Love & Friendship."

I think they used this method in Bram Stoker's Dracula - a book I did not enjoy at all.

I think they used this method in Bram Stoker's Dracula - a book I did not enjoy at all. You're correct, a lot of it is first person journal/diary entries by the characters. I thought Dracula was OK but not particularly great.

I love Daddy Long Legs by Jean Webster, one of my favourite books.
THe Boy Next Door by Meg Cabot is pretty funny.
sorcery and Cecilia by Patricia C. Wrede and Caroline Stevermer is very entertaining.
