I just realized that I didn't give you my ratings. 1. Death Becomes Her - 6/10 2. Postcards from the Edge - 5.5/10 3. She-Devil - 4.5/10 I find it difficult to single out one of them between SD and DBH. I would rate both of them an 8/10 I think. I like the easygoing and charming presentation of SD and the polished technical quality of DBH and the black sense of humor in both films appeals to my wicked funny bone.
I guess what I am more interested in though and the main point of my post, is Streep's performances in them and which one would be considered the funniest or cleverest in comparison.
Of the two performances I remember, DBH is the performance that works the best in context with the film it is in. I love dark humor too btw, but DBH is only effective to a certain point.

Granted, Streep's was a better performance than the lead in elvira: mistress of the dark, which came out around the same time.

I will settle for nothing less than great.
Yes, there are in-betweens, but my point was, if the film isn't resonating with me on a dramatic level, I would rather go and watch one that does, that I know will satisfy. Of course taste in film and opinion is all subjective.
I think that pretty much goes for everybody, doesn't it? Ordinary People, Terms of Endearment, Far From Heaven and The Ice Storm all resonate with me on a dramatic level. Or the ones that make the bigger splash or emotional impact.

It wasn't exactly a sharp and witty clever satire, but more a showcase for visual effects at the time and to show what they could achieve and make it palatable for the less discerning audiences out there.

I have always loved a great drama. Have you seen those 2 t.v. films I have mentioned? I have seen both of them floating around on you-tube.

Surviving is about teen suicides in 2 families and has Zach Galligan, Molly Ringwald, Ellen Burystn, Marsha Mason, River Phoenix, Paul Sorvino. It runs for 2hrs 20mins. I think it is terrific for a t.v film and it details the cause, the trauma and the blame wonderfully between the 2 families. Another similar themed t.v. film is Silence Of The Heart with Charlie Sheen.
Consenting Adult is gay themed Ordinary People style family drama, with Marlo Thomas and Martin Sheen, about an All American Boy who comes out and his father can't accept it. I might also recommend similar themed t.v movies Welcome Home Bobby and Doing Time On Maple Drive.

When I say I have to be VERY interested in the subject matter I mean it has to be something like Sybil or Helter Skelter and when I say I have to be a BIG fan of the star I mean it has to be one of my all time favorite a actors.

Well, you said you like a good drama and these ones are goodies, especially Surviving, so I have recommended them. I guess I am making an attempt to plug them, because I think people can dismiss t.v films. If they were done well, they tackled themes that mainstream cinema film didn't often do, like male rape with Richard Crenna in Deadly Justice. 85' was a good year for t.v films. Content wise, they did tend to be sanitized compared to what they produce today, where the line now blurs between t.v. shows and movies made for the cinema. I am not sure what generation you are, if you are x, you may enjoy them and appreciate them.

I might add, like you commented to me, does there only have to be a great drama and no in-betweens to find it acceptable. I feel Surviving is at the very least a great drama, regardless of whether or not one likes the actors in it.

The more questions about this subject you ask, the less sense my answers will make to you. I would rather watch a bad regular movie than a good made for TV movie. I would like the good TV movie more than the bad theatrical movie, but I refuse to watch most TV movies. This has to do with my Obsessive Thought Disorder.

I guess that might be your own social and reasoning skills based on your OTD. The bottom line though, is a good drama is a good drama and since you stated you think Ordinary People is a great drama, I have suggested some films that are similar in style\theme.
