I actually think its better than the Transformer movies. It was a lot of fun for the most part and pretty cool.
The downside of it all is the editing. It can be a bit messy at some points, and to be honest I hated Elizabeth Banks as Rita!!! She was TERRIBLE and did not fit in the rest of the movie. She was supposed to be dark and menacing but she came off like a cartoon character, and the reason it didnt work in this movie is cause none of the rest of the movie was like that. The movie had light moments, a lot of heart and the 5 Rangers were actually GREAT in their roles.
There was a portion in the middle where it got too dark and serious, and then you have dark and serious scenes with a super cheesy Rita involved and it just doesn't work...
Bryan Cranston was fantastic and I loved the look of Zordon in this.
The best part was the cameo of two Original Rangers near the end. My theater was packed and everyone started clapping and screaming when you see them.
It was a fun experience and not bad at all, but Banks and the editing and a few holes in the story make me have to give it a 6/10.
But it is watchable.

I'll likely never see this film. Just watching the original series now makes me cringe.

I can't even believe they brought this crap back as i slightly remember watching a bit or piece of the TV series back in the day, which says it ran from 1993-1999 from a quick look online a moment ago, and that show was a joke. sure, i realize that in general TV shows tend to be lower quality than movies and in that regard i expect this new movie to be better than the TV show but at the end of the day given my impression of the movie in the commercials i won't be watching it. looks like some generic special effects type of movie with non-interesting characters etc. hell, it appears to be a insult to Bryan Cranston.
p.s. for the record, since you brought up Transformers movies... i mildly like Transformers (2007), at least as of my most recent viewing which was Aug 17th 2012(which makes for my second viewing of it), but the sequels are not worth re-watching so i gave those a thumbs down. but damn, i can't believe it's going on five years since i last re-watched Transformers (2007), time flies. i should get around to re-watching it before this year is over just to make sure i still like it.
