I don't think it's that terrible looking. I mean, sure it's goofy but it's Shazam. He's pretty goofy.

“Making suits is hard. Like painting a room you can look at little swatches all day but you won’t really see the effect until it’s done. The color of the finished suit didn’t look quite as expected in some lights (particularly daylight) which is on me since I decided to change fabric very late in prep and there wasn’t time for as many tests. I figured we’d just have to tweak it in post. The first image released though unfortunately didn’t have any post production done to it.
That was right as we were putting the trailer together. I figured since that image was out there perhaps we shouldn’t stray too far from it in the trailer. Might be confusing. This image [the one on the right in the shot above] is closer to what I’m going for, but it’s all still a work in progress and we’ll see where we end up. No images (or the trailer) have the finished bolt effect either (it’s not going to be an extreme effect or anything but it’s not just a simple glow).”

Most of the time I hate it when Directors, Cinematographers, and Costume designers use cgi color overlays, to effect mood, enhance light, use lens flairs or over color effect shots. Some filmmakers use way too much and it becomes a crutch. This doesn't sound like this is the case here. Which is more points in their favor. The texture/color/lighting cgi used here looks subtle and some how more "realistic" (well a realistic as a grown man in big red suit can be) This movie is kind of growing on me. At first I thought I'd skip it opening and second weekend go sometime during it's second week. Now, I will probably go to the first Tuesday Discount Day Opening.

I DO think its horrible looking. He looks doofy in it, IMO. Him and his skinny neck with huge arms and shoulders. wtf?
And if its so hard to make then how come everyone else in the movies has gotten it right so far? I really have seen better cosplay. This isn't a WB TV show; its a major motion picture!

Every time I hear the title Shazam, I (1) think of the non-existent Sinbad genie movie, which is a fascinating and funny saga of misremembering (or universe-switching, man!), and (2) want to scream, “He’s called Captain Marvel, you know!”
Except he’s not, because Marvel’s making a movie with that title. Oh well.
Anyway, I saw an ad for this before The Nun. Looks terrible—a modern cynical-humor version of Big if you gave Tom Hanks superpowers. (I probably wouldn’t have minded it so much if it weren’t for the cynical, “meta,” ha-ha-we’re-so-smart-and-with-it humor stuff.) Oy.
