Lonely Are the Brave (1962) Apparently Kirk Douglas considered this dramatic film his personal favourite . He plays John W. "Jack" Burns a roaming ranch hand, living much as the cowboys of the old West did, shunning modern society, he carries no identification and cannot even provide authorities a home address, because he just sleeps wherever he finds a place. Eventually he runs foul of the law and flees toward the Mexican Border, spectacular location shooting in New Mexico, Burns and horse flee over the Sandia Mountains , Highway 66 in Tijeras Canyon is crossed...

Thanks for this posting, Man-X.
My favorite Kirk movie. And yes, his too.
Got to talk with him at length about it at a film conference where he was promoting his directed and starring new movie SCALAWAG, based on "Treasure Island."
PATHS OF GLORY was a close second, he told me.
