Hopefully the new Publix 3 minutes away from my house will open in November then I won't have to "stock up" on things, WKD and I can just hop into the car on any day and pick up what we want. I went to our local Rouses (New Orleans based store)yesterday and they had cabbage rolls again in their deli so we had that for supper last night, makes up for the complete failure at my attempt at cabbage roll casserole. We also split a Green Giant microwave baked potato, these potatoes are better than homemade - who would have thought that a microwave potato could be so good. Still keeping my fingers crossed for a Trader Joe's to open in the area.

sounds good! never been to rouses---do they make sammies? just picked up some Cioppino that they make at my local fish market---great for my late summer allergies & tasty too.

Yes they make sammies but not Cubans, its not my favorite store but they are about 5 minutes away. They have poor produce, have a lot of things on the shelf that are past the expiration date and they are overpriced on a lot of things. I guess if you like Cajun cooking, it would be a great store for you because that's a specialty of theirs plus they are famous for their King Cakes. Once Publix opens I'll won't go as often but they do carry Borden's milk products and Publix doesn't. WKD drinks Borden's Dutch chocolate milk every day, I usually get it from Walmart, Rouses and sometimes Big LOts. They also carry Wonder bread, hard to find here. WKD likes his lunch sandwiches made with Wonder Bread. Rouses also makes their own cream style cole slaw that is very good so I will still go for certain things I can't get at Publix. I'm still hoping for a Trader Joe's.

I found a pot roast at a great price. I'll steam some broccoli, and maybe have some buttered noodles. When I was growing up, we always had that with pot roast.

I'm going to make cabbage roll casserole for the first time. I hope it comes out ok, I'm not a good cook. I have a very simple recipe and I'm going to eliminate some of the ingredients onions & bacon, garlic, salt & pepper and just use the meat , rice, tomato sauce, shredded cabbage but I will add some sugar to the tomato sauce. WKD and I prefer plain food, its easier to digest. (we're 2 old farts) My sis smuggled out some publix subs to me from Florida! got a Cuban, Italian, and ham & turkey with bacon.

Homemade veggie beef soup, we will eat part of it the rest I will freeze in individual containers for my husbands lunches. Tapioca pudding I made earlier today. Enough for 3 desserts for each of us.
