Have the kickers kick FG's from 40, 45, 50 yards out and so on. The first to miss loses.

I hate them too, but I don't think players can or should keep playing out there beyond the OT period. It's easy enough to get injured. So how would you settle it? 2-minute drills. Each team gets 1 possession starting from their own 25-yard line. Flip a coin. The team winning the coin toss can choose to start on offense or defense. Each team has 2 minutes and 3 timeouts to move the ball down the field and get into the end zone. No FGs allowed. The possession ends in 1 of 4 ways: 1. The offense gets into the end zone. 2. The offense turns the ball over. 3. Loss of downs. 4. Game clock expires. When the 1st team's possession ends, the 2nd team gets their possession. If both offenses got into the end zone, then the team that got into the end zone in the shortest time on the game clock wins. If both possessions ended with neither offense getting into the end zone, then the team that advanced the ball closest to the end zone before the possession ended wins. It's quick, only takes 4 minutes of game clock so no one has to sit through another 15-minute period, and both teams get a possession so no one can say it was unfair.

+1. There shouldn't be so much hand-wringing with ties - - it's a legitimate outcome to a game.Unless you're playing the Browns. It's awful . . . but legitimate.

Some sort of penalty shootout* in which you start - like in real football - with five players (the Goat, Edelman etc. pp., if you were the Pats) and everyone tries to make a field goal. If it is still tied after these five rounds, each further round is the deciding one if one team misses and the other one hits. How poetic...the only real event when the egg is actually kicked by foot You Yanks don't know it (although isn't there one in Ice Hockey?), and the English fear it like the devil...that's why nobody had mentioned it so far. Germans do like penalty shoot outs...

Easy. Make it so a tie is worse than losing.

Can I add that if you tie the 21st century Cleveland Browns, you deserve 2 losses on your record for it.
The Steelers are 0-2-1 right now.
