I'm not familiar with it, Bat. How does it differ from broiling, or baking. Frying in air is a bit difficult to grasp.

divtal It's basically a counter top convection thingy... as seen on TV machine. No oil. Use for fries, chicken etc. The air is heated to temperature and then it swirls around the food. Thing is that the reviews are all over the map .. LOVE It , It smells funny, GREAT MACHINE !, broke after a couple of days ... argh !

"Fryer" is a bit of a misnomer, though you could coat food with a bit of oil. It does crispy baking, is good for reheating, and generally takes half the time of the oven at 25 degrees Fahrenheit lower. I got mine at Costco and use it pretty regularly. It does take up a lot of counter space for the small amount of interior space it has.

NJtoTX thanks for the feedback … … I take it you had no problems with the smell or peeling of the cooking basket ? I am looking to get the 6 quart version as the 10 is GIGANTIC and the 3.whatever looks too small.

I am looking to get the 6 quart version as the 10 is GIGANTIC and the 3.whatever looks too small. Pretty sure I have the 3 quart. Haven't noticed a smell or peeling. The mesh grates don't clean well, though. Maybe because I tend to not clean them when I should (maybe that's what you mean by peeling?) I almost always use the reversible rack so the food is centered vertically. I tried putting food on both racks, but the top cooked more than the bottom.

NJtoTXsome of the reviews say that the non-teflon but Teflon type coating peels off pretty quickly even when they hand wash the food dish. The one I am looking at is on sale for $130 which I am reluctant to spend for something with so many iffy reviews.
Sounds like you are ok with the job it does so you go on the yes column !

I went with the Elite Platinum 5.5 quart Air Fryer .. … bought it on-line and later found it at WallyWorld for $20 less … But so far it's $100 well spent ! So far it's been getting a real work out ! Home made Yukon Gold and Sweet Potato Fries, chicken and fish nuggets, fish patties AND battered and non battered Zucchini Fries … too bad that it's the end of zucchini season as these are terrific ! Things take less than a tablespoon of oil and with a little fine tuning and practice will be more than just "satisfactory".

Sandman That one seem to have a lot more in the bells and whistles department … it looks promising. This is the one I got Just a Tsp or 1/2 TB seems to be plenty of oil for a big batch of homemade fries... they need to be dried in a towel a bit before oil and salt are added … am going to try just a spritz of the spray oil and see how that works out.
I do NOT make as many fries as they show in that picture .. mine are just a single layer at most. It's a pretty big basket !

Sandman That one seem to have a lot more in the bells and whistles department … it looks promising. This is the one I got I checked that one out and it got two reviews. This is what they said: ***** The best Air Fryer on the market. Love it!! I cooked a whole chicken in mine when I got and it's Great for frozen foods. Such as onion rings, French Fries, and Tater Tots!! Yummy!! ***** Love it! Works excellent. It is one the best appliances I ever had. I might have to check that one out. Did you get it at Wal-Mart?

Sandman I got it on-line at Kohl's and then saw it at Wal-Mart for $20 less... I like Kohl's return policy more than WalMart's AND I earned $20 in "Kohl's Buck" so it all worked out about even. I would suggest getting the 5.5 QT rather than the 3.5 even if you are not cooking for a mob.

I should have cleaned mine sooner and more often.

I should have cleaned mine sooner and more often. The basket and tray of mine just barely fit in my sink BUT I take them out together … fill with HOT water and soap and slosh … then separate them … not an easy task (that is one of the things people comment on … it can be done but you have to fight it a little bit )… final rinse and drain. Have been trying fish sticks and pattys so need to wash to get the fishy smell nuked asap !
This one doesn't come with any racks … have one from another appliance that I shall try one of these days.
