General thoughts and opinions on Prisoners.
In my opinion, this is a relatively overlooked masterpiece. Gyllenhaal is so good in this and it's one of the few mysteries in recent years to actually hold my attention and not end on a low note.
As much as I love Sicario, I think this is my second favorite Villeneuve movie behind BR 2049.

Yes, all very well directed and acted, but it's still an unexceptional psycho/mystery thriller. A watchable time killer. 5/10

A watchable time killer. 5/10 I'd probably give it a higher rating, but those are basically my thoughts, but I'll add that I was semi-uncomfortable with the film's pro-vigilante/pro-torture stance. We couldn't even end the film without Jackman being found at the end to tie everything in a fancy bow.

I think it's great. I like the story a lot, it's intense, the cinematography is fantastic, the score is great, and Gyllenhaal and Jackman are terrific.

Excellent film but the torture scenes went a little too far.

Have forgotten pretty much everything about this film, save for the very good Jake Gyllenhaal and the dreadful Melissa Leo. 5/10

It's one of those movies that's decent enough for a viewing but has no re-watch value which makes it ultimately forgettable.
The directors movies rank like this in my mind on the five I have seen...
1)Sicario (2015) - 7/10 (within my Top 189 movies) 2)Enemy (2013-2014) - 6-6.5/10 (within my Top 235 movies) 3)Arrival (2016) - 6/10 (a mild Thumbs Up) 4)Prisoners (2013) - 5/10 (Thumbs Down) -)Blade Runner 2049 (2017)

Torture scenes went to far?
That’s what made the movie so good, and harrowing. Jackman is as convincing as ever and I thought he selled it. Nothing is holding his character back and I actually found him to be quite terrifying at times.
9/10. The acting in the opening 15 minutes or so is the only thing holding it back.
