Laptop
i would buy that solely because it's a actual computer unlike a tablet which is only for basic internet use.

I own a tablet, but not one with an attachable keyboard. Traditionally, laptops have always been second to operating a PC. I used to have something similar to this laptop back in the '90s: i579.photobucket.com/albums/ss235/Solvalu/IMG_20140708_011025_zpsoxbza0vw.jpgThough, mine was a 486SX with a 25 MHz single-core processor. Remember laplinking? I did that in order to transfer certain drivers and such through Windows 95!!!

I bought a brand new MacBook in 2008, HDD crapped out a few months ago. Bought a used one for $17 and replaced it myself in a few minutes. Works great, 10 years later.

Nobody uses MacBook anymore. I know, I know: there are no MacBooks with good personalities. A good personality consists of a MacBook with a little hard drive, who will satisfy all browser demands without being too beachbally about things, and who essentially will keep her dumb storage space free.

Laptop all the way. Tablets just don't have the power. Plus it would hurt my eyes to continually look at a 7 inch screen. Give me my 17 inch laptop screen any day!

Probably a laptop. Less prone to overheating, replaceable parts eg HDD, screen, keyboard. A tablet is so convenient though, if you can cope with less than fast data entry and lack of apps compared to Windows.

Laptop - but I also use my iPad Air 2 every day (and I mean every single day unless I'm on a religious Holiday or something).
I would love to get the iPad Pro (big) model, but the original size is so convenient for fitting into small spaces (such as sitting next to the flat screen monitor for my laptop).
I used to have a cable that would play movies from my old iPad onto almost any TV, which was fun! Now I use a cable from my MacBook Pro to connect to TVs if I want to watch one of the movies from my iTunes Library on a regular flat screen TV.
I get so much use out of the iPad Air 2, anyway, that it was really worth the money.

I don't use computers, laptops or tablets in the john (although I did have a TV with cable in an outer bathroom nook that had a whirlpool tub once). The TV couldn't fall into the water and I figured that watching a movie while whirling wasn't the most decadent thing a person could do.

I use both as well as a stationary pc (and, of course my smartphone). My laptop is old, but it suits my purposes when I need a pc away from home (mostly typing). Sometimes I hook it up to a projector and watch a movie in bed, like I did today (I'm down with the flu) The tablet is primary for reading books, like a kindle and video taping lectures at the university. I do the same with my phone, but audio only so I can listen to them (or other audiobooks) when I'm taking a walk or driving. The phone is also very useful to keep appointments and similar things. But mostly I use my stationary. I don't even have internet on the phone or tablet. Don't see any reason to pay for two connections.
It depends on what you are using it for.
