We are not supposed to use the Lord's name in vain. But people say, "Oh my God" constantly. Some people say it 20 times a day. Is that using the Lord's name in vain? Is that a sin?
What do you think?

in order to properly blaspheme
there is a method used in order to properly blaspheme first and foremost you must make it seem that your audience is compiled of raging queens who couldn't find their way out of a paper bag even if given the means on stone tablets gleaned by sheep herders who found absolutely nothing obscene in promoting a tyranny tooled by one too many gods unseen.

Former Christian (current atheist) here, so take my opinion with a grain of salt...but...
I never interpreted common expressions such as that as "taking the Lord's name in vain" anymore than someone saying "God bless you" after you sneeze is taking the Lord's name in vain. Oh my God is a common speech exclamation, and nothing more. It has nothing to do with God, especially when I as an atheist can say "Oh my God". Well obviously it doesn't mean anything then since I have no god.
Taking the Lord's name in vain would in my opinion be more akin to someone saying "I swear to God". That is an obvious example because the bible actually defines that as one example of taking the Lord's name in vain.
Matthew 5:33-37 33 “Again, you have heard that it was said to the people long ago, ‘Do not break your oath, but fulfill to the Lord the vows you have made.’ 34 But I tell you, do not swear an oath at all: either by heaven, for it is God’s throne; 35 or by the earth, for it is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great King. 36 And do not swear by your head, for you cannot make even one hair white or black. 37 All you need to say is simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything beyond this comes from the evil one.
This passage says not to swear, and that combined with all of the specific passages about keeping the Lord's name holy (Psalm 111:9; Matthew 6:9) seems to suggest that using God's name to swear is taking his name in vain.
The other way to take God's name in vain, and perhaps even more egregious, is for people to proclaim the name of the Lord in the commission of an evil act. Christians who use their religion to justify homophobia for example, disowning their children for being gay (in the name of Jesus). Well, if it's something Jesus wouldn't do, then you're probably full of shit. Catholic Bishops who protect pedophile priests from criminal prosecution (in the name of Jesus), well that's probably using the Lord's name in vain as well since there is no reason to believe Christ would sanction such a thing. Pastors of megachurches who live in the life of luxury and get rich off of people donating to him, and not having to pay taxes, all in the name of Jesus. That might be them taking the Lord's name in vain.

And I feel it is really stupid for a non-believer to say it. What does it mean when an Atheist says, "Oh my God" when an Atheist has no god? Stupid.

It's an exclamation that has no more meaning than what you attach to it. So my answer would be, if it means something offensive "to you", then you probably shouldn't say it. Because clearly your conscience is bothered by the fact that you've associated some special meaning to it. I on the other hand attach no special meaning to words, and consequently don't believe in any such thing as "good words" or "bad words". It's all superstition, and tradition, and cultural to me.

Unless one lives in a cave, this expression is heard constantly every day in person, on TV, . . . etc.

Oh my God, of course saying Oh my God is a sin!!!
NOT...
But since I am an atheist, I prefer to say "Dammit to Hell and buggery!" and leave the word 'god' out of it.

I personally do not hear someone use that expression every day in person, or on TV. So, it might come down to exactly who you are hanging out with every day, and what their tendencies are, and what you choose to watch on television. Having said that, I tend to agree with your overall point. Someone saying ANYTHING over and over again is annoying as it is indicative of a lack of vocabulary, and a limited way of expressing themselves.

As an Athiest, I would not expect you to be insulted or offended by the constant exclamation of, "Oh my God !!!" But although it is annoying, I think you make a good point by saying it shows a lack of vocabulary or, of ways to express oneself.

To me someone who says the same thing over and over again (especially if it's an exclamation that they aren't using for emphasis, but just as a filler word) because they can't think of anything else to say in its place probably has a low IQ, or at the very least is poor at communicating their thoughts.

captainbryceJesus Christ is clearly against two people of the same sex having sex with each other as it's immoral, period. so for someone to be against the gay agenda and the like are doing the right thing here. but with that said... with your disowning comment, I think that might be going a bit far. but at the same time one obviously can't support their "lifestyle" even though a parent could still talk to them and help them out with random things in life etc, like a typical parent does for their children. also, God still does love gay people except what they are experiencing is basically a cross for them to bear as they are likely called to be celibate etc. I realize that's asking a lot but it's pretty much the only way for a gay person who wants to follow Jesus Christ and avoid living in sin etc.

Preferably the bible.

Isn't this "cross to bear" one that has been needlessly placed by God upon gay people? Gay sex causes no harm. If God had just declared that sex outside of marriage is a sin, whether straight or gay, wouldn't that have been fair to all who want to be a Christian?

No where in the Bible does it say Christ is against homosexuality. It vaguely references the dangers of promiscuity and "men laying with men". But that is in reference to wreckless hedonism. Not homosexuality. And don't forget, the Bible was written by men. Not God or Jesus Christ. And it was based on the social morays of the time.
