I'm halfway through season three. Great series. On par with Breaking Bad in most ways. Amazing cinematography, great acting, writing and directing. The prequel aspects of it hold it back a bit though. We already know the fate of most of the characters. I just finished season 4. I just love the show. Everything about it. Its probably the only slow show that i dont want to fast forward... the characters are so well written and portrayed. so nuanced. and likeable. including the very flawed ones. i mean except of the evil psychotic nephews of course. to hell with them. and victor. everybody else i like and somehow root for. That's awesome! It's such a masterpiece of a series. I assume you have already seen Breaking Bad? I think this series is even better. NEW EPISODES IN TWO DAYS!!!!!&!!!

Halfway through Season 3 at the moment and would currently rate it 10/10. Can be a little slow-paced at times, but the writing and character development close to perfect and the acting is superb. Don't forget the cinematography! The whole show is a masterwork of photography. It's just so beautiful.

I was just thinking about that is BB better (I think yes) and why (I think the evolution of the ventral character is bigger and thus holds more stakes and maybe also Walts original motivation garners more sympathy) As far as our love for BCS - remember we went into BCS already loving the characters. I wonder what would someone who sees BCS first and only Then BB say...

I think I appreciate Saul a touch more because of how compelling it is without all of the life and death stakes of BB. In that way it's a greater achievement. But both are amazing. I think someone watching Saul first would still love it. After all it did sell us on Jimmy McGill. I never would've thought this character could be so complex, likable and compelling. I actually ignored the show for years, even as a massive BB fan because I didn't think Saul could carry a show. That was obviously a mistake.

I couldn’t have imagine d accepting Saul as a completely new person under a new name I felt I would always see him as Saul. but So soon I “forgot” about Saul and all I saw was the enticing world of Jimmy and his complex personality. Really great artistic achievement.

Better Call Saul is quite possibly the best crafted television series I've ever seen, outstanding acting, outstanding photography, outstanding writing, character arcs and development, all of it ... but it takes slow pacing to a new level and is probably the slowest paced television series I've ever seen. For that reason it's hard for me to rate. If it were better paced 10/10, it would be in my top 5 all times shows but as it is, probably 8/10.
Compared to BB: BCS is in many ways a better show but is not a more entertaining show. BB biggest problem was that it has multiple major story arcs and the last is not the best. B5 had the same problem, 3 major story arcs but the last was the least. Both times I've watched BB, I was wishing the story would end quicker than it did.

Overall not really... -Breaking Bad (2008-2013) = 10/10 (tied for my #1 TV show ever with The Sopranos (1999-2007). these two are the only two TV shows I gave a 10/10.) -Better Call Saul (2015-xxxx) = ?/10 (ill reserve official judgement until it's over. but given what I have seen so far, which is the first four seasons (Season 5 starts Feb 23rd 2020), I would say a 7/10 is likely. it's solid enough but is definitely not at the greatness of Breaking Bad.)
p.s. I think Breaking Bad hit greatness level later into Season 3 as the peak of the show was the last episode of Season 3 as that was clearly when the show was at the height of tension/suspense as it's rare I get that feeling from stuff to a high degree and this pulled it off very well. but even into Season 4 on forward it was still pretty strong and overall it's 10/10 status is sealed as true gems like this are very rare as looking at movies and TV shows... only six movies managed to get a 10/10 from me and only two TV shows did it.
That makes no sense. because whatever is more interesting/entertaining IS the better show. period. because I don't care how much 'better' a show might be on paper, if it does not entertain to a higher degree it's simply not that great at the end of the day.
in that regard... Breaking Bad is clearly superior overall and it's not even close. I think Better Call Saul is solid enough, but like you say, it's pacing noticeably damages the overall show and it's highs are not high enough to compensate for the generally slow pace, which is a bit too slow like you mentioned. plus, I think the show gets a boost because it's tied to the Breaking Bad world and since we are more emotionally invested in those characters from Breaking Bad, it gives Better Call Saul a boost right from the get go.
While some might argue on where it should have ended... overall it's pretty damn good to where I am not going to nit-pick over it. but I would imagine the whole Gustavo Fring thing was basically the peak villain and I could maybe see some saying it might have ended around here but at the same time, while the later villains might not have been as interesting as Gus, I think the show made up for in in other ways with Jesse/Walt/Hank drama etc.
besides, I think with TV shows in general... about 5 Seasons (maybe a bit beyond this) is probably a pretty good guideline of how long shows should generally run as this way your not ending things too quickly but not dragging it out forever either.
p.s. but overall I liked your general comments on Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul.

I know what you mean about the pacing, but it doesn't bother me. I've watched the last four seasons twice and I have loved every minute... But, I think the show does hit the brakes sonetimes because it's a prequel and they are boxed into what we know is the end result. As I said above I think the subplots with Gus and Nacho sonetimes feel like intentional filler/padding, as entertaining as they are.

I can't wait to see what happens in the opening with Cinnabon Gene. I love those scenes. I wonder if the final season will feature more Gene...

Good episode. I still wish the series would focus more on Jimmy/Kim/Mike and less on Lalo/Gus/Nacho. But it's not a big complaint.
Can't wait for episode two tonight!
