Anyone else think there should be (much) less individual boards.
The Suggestion box is full of threads asking for more specific boards, but what's the point when they're only going to get 3 posts a week.
All the boards here are soooo much slower and less active than the old IMDb. Personally I think you could easily get away with as combining everything into about 10 boards.
Do we really need seperate Food, Fashion, Transport (for Gods sake) boards when all this could easily be discussed on the Genral Discussion board.

Fox in the Snow I agree. FWIW .. (imo) General Discussion would be more active if people posted General Discussions there instead of posting OT on things that really belong elsewhere. The actors/actresses board could also be busier. Celebrity gossip really don't belong on Classic Film (nor do threads about movies currently in the theater Politics and the Religion Board are usually a sea of OT threads... labeled thusly or not ! Some posters seem to be afraid to move out of their neighborhood and comfort zone so just slap an OT on anything that they feel like posting.

BATouttaheck True Also true, though my suggestion is to get rid of all the excess boards including many of the film related ones (including actors/actresses). IMO we could get away with 3 "Film Boards": General, Classic, New & Recent releases. All of these are capable of handling all the threads from all the other film boards combined. Guess I'm a little guilty of that myself, I generally stick to about 6 select boards, but I don't post OT threads on topic specific boards. I think the following boards would be adequate: Support/Suggestions/Admin General Discussion Film General Film Classic Film New Television (1 board) Music (1 board) Sport Politics Religion Games (Baker's Dozen etc.)

Fox in the Snow on second thought.... The problem is .. when there is a big file cabinet with a few drawers in it, things get all jumbled up and you cannot find anything when you want it. IF people would post where the topic belongs things would proceed in a more orderly and rational manner (well... as rational as internet conversation can be Example of potential jumble comes to mind: Bakers Dozen mixed with all of the other movie/tv based games might prove to be a nightmare if in a single GAMES area. It really needs it's own "drawer" with individual "folders" . Rather than specific boards for individual shows, movies, books, games etc … posters need to make folders within the correct drawer and stick to them. On the other hand, the TV Board might benefit from some consolidation.
It's all more complicated than it appears at first glance.

I hate OT topics when a board already exists for them.
I don't necessarily agree on needing fewer boards, just more active posters.

RE: active What we REALLY need is active posters who do more than ask a question in the thread title and then a "?" or "thoughts" as the body of the thread. Doesn't take that much longer to write something that actually gets the thinking process going and gives something to reply to or expand upon.. Fewer "better one ?/ better two ? " threads might be a good idea. Quality beats quantity when it comes to authoring threads … active doesn't necessarily mean worth reading.

It's all more complicated than it appears at first glance. I may have over simplified it a little, but the boards could definitely benefit from a lot of consolidation. I just looked at the Games Boards and maybe "Baker's Dozen" warrants it's own board, but the others could be consolidated. Do we really need a seperate "goofs" board when the last post was almost 6 months ago.

Fox in the Snow
I don't use the vast majority of the areas available but wish that many of the chronic Off Topic-ers did As I understand it, Admin made a carbon copy of the old IMDb so that we would have a new home and it's been modified per requests from users since then.
The boards are slower because there are far fewer members here and because so many of the trolls and trouble-makers have moved elsewhere (voluntarily or not
I need to peek into that goofs thingy !

BATouttaheckI guess that’s what I’m doing here, my reasoning being It would interesting to hear what others think. I’m happy for it to remain as is, and I’m sure it will, as I think I’m in the minority with wanting less boards. Most people seem to want more boards. Just something I wanted to put out there. Thank you for your input

the boards could definitely benefit from a lot of consolidation. Been there, done that. As for inactive boards, they all eventually make their way to the Legacy category. Speaking of, thanks for the heads up about the Goofs board.

the boards could definitely benefit from a lot of consolidation. Been there, done that. There used to be even more? I know some boards have been made sub-boards under broader categories (like music) but there is still IMO way too many separate boards. Do we really need a separate "rock" board when even Music General only gets two new threads a day? I not sure how much work it takes to consolidate/remove boards, so if it is something that takes a lot of work I certainly understand and do appreciate all the effort you've already put in.

I don't want too much consolidation to the point where there's a jumble of topics on one board that would be better off split. Also, I'm assuming there's no "cost" to the number of boards here, so I'd rather they stay as is with one or two here and there headed off to the 'legacy' section.

The Suggestion box is full of threads asking for more specific boards, but what's the point when they're only going to get 3 posts a week. The point is... That you can find them... I just saw a thread the other day, which was last posted to a YEAR ago, that I had never seen before, because it was randomly placed. This OT posting is mostly Bullshit... Members shouldn't have to sort through several hundred threads on several pages on the "General Film" board to discuss (For Example) a "Star Wars" film. It's much easier to discuss similar topics when they are all sorted.

If you look at the boards regularly enough you should still catch all threads and a "Star Wars" thread is still technically relevant on Film General. Like I said I'm happy to go with the majority. Was just interested to see what everyone thought/if anyone agreed with me.

OK, fair enough. I still think it's ridiculous having 8 music boards with no traffic, but this is a democracy I guess. Can't please everybody. The layout of the categories and boards is a never-ending work in progress. Tomorrow, there might be more. The next day, maybe less. Perhaps it might help to know that requested boards are on a "use or lose it" basis. I suppose I could always go back to the original IMDb layout, but something tells me you would hate that...

Constant traffic is the reason that I click on the [Recent Threads] button, almost exclusively.

Constant traffic is the reason that I click on the [Recent Threads] button, almost exclusively. I check participated and recent threads after looking at the notifications for tags and quotes. Seems to be workin' ! (innit?)
