Catman, I am so very sorry for your loss. I'm going to hug all of my kitties; each one is special and leaves a hole in your heart when they go. Take care of yourself.

My condolences.
I haven't had many cats-- I'm more of a bird or dog person-- but I did take in a stray mackerel tabby some years ago. I never gave him a name and just let him crash at my place and gave him food, you know, let him come and go as he pleased. In return, he'd occasionally sit on my chest and purr. I'm sure cat owners know how great that feeling is. I tried putting a collar on him but it clearly made him uncomfortable so I took it back off.
One day he disappeared. He'd only been around for a few months but I was crushed. I would keep looking out my backdoor, which I'd been keeping open and cut a hole in the screen, hoping he'd come back. I tried looking but never found him. I never fixed the hole in the screen.
Sorry to make this about my story, but I can only imagine how you feel after sixteen years, is what I'm saying. But I imagine they were sixteen good years just like my few months were a good few months.

My sincere thanks to everyone for their kind words and stories shared. And while Xander's absence is still keenly felt, his passing has provided an opportunity to give a shelter cat a home. You can read about the new arrival here: IMDB2.freeforums.net/post/2107643/thread
