Agatha Christie is my favourite based on the number of books I have by her. Other female authors I think highly of include Barbara Pym, Jane Austen, E.O Somerville and Martin Ross, Georgette Heyer, Richmal Crompton, Ngaio Marsh, Sei Shonagon.

I love most of Scarlett Thomas's work, especially The End of Mr Y and Pop Co. Just discovered that she has a new book out this year, too.

I saw a few weeks ago they were making Nine Lives into a movie. Interesting. Hopefully it won't be as abysmal as the attempt at making her Earthsea books into a movie. I'd love to see a 'Dispossessed' movie, but I'm not sure how that would translate to film.

You're the first person I've heard mention Georgette Heyer! I love her too.
