Imagine if the director's cut of Once Upon a Time in America was never released. From what I hear, the studio forced Sergio Leone to edit the movie so much that it made the narrative incomprehensible. Have you seen Siskel and Ebert's review for Once Upon a Time in America? I just watched it a couple weeks ago and they both talk about how they were able to both versions and the American cut was basically incomprehensible. Makes sense because it's 90 minutes shorter than the European cut and I think it's cut into chronological order too.

No, but I know Ebert rates the American version 1/4 stars and the other version 4/4 stars. I have read Roger Ebert's review of the short version though.
