It will be a lot easier for you to criticize religion when you have any better ideas yourself. If that ever happens, that is. Why don't you refute or even address the points I made above rather than attacking me personally in ad hominem. You yourself constantly confuse religion and politics. You are almost the poster 'fossil' for it! Hypocrisy much? The Bible has always had a female judge, prophet, military leader, and heroes.

So what? What does that matter if 'the boss/God' is assumed white and male?

So what? What does that matter if 'the boss/God' is assumed white and male? You have a childish concept of a "boss." Being the "boss" isn't the free ride you think. The "boss," if there is one, is the person who makes decisions AND takes the blame for making decisions that go wrong. I just sent arguments in the thread "If everything is God's will ..." where my opponents are certain God is to blame for everything. Is that what you want for some "woman boss"? Go for it then.

all hail the power of jesus shame
quite frankly hiding under the shadow of a man's half swollen penis has done absolutely nothing for the planet to date.

What a boss/God is, is irrelevant. It is the fact of the assumed sex and race that is important. The people who depict God as white merely had white models. They didn't have much access to black models. Of course their concept of a "person" was a white person, that's probably all they ever saw with rare exceptions. I suppose if a black person similarly has no white models then they are only going to be able to paint black people well, not whites. Their concept of "mankind" is going to be different. If the only thing you can paint well is black people then maybe you should paint black people. No one is stopping you. I think the most important thing you're missing though is that no one with good sense cares either way. You're making a big issue out of nothing. No one who reads the Bible with understanding thinks of God as an anthropomorphic being anyway. That is against the rules for one thing. It is only allowed to accommodate children since they have difficulty with the abstract. If you're depicting God as a black woman to bring attention to the fact that no one really knows what God looks like, that would be one thing and perhaps successful. Congratulations. If you're depicting God as a black woman in order to correct mistreatment of blacks or women, then you're just being silly. The old art precedes any racial problem for one thing. Plenty of powerful aristocrats were female and some ruled alone as queens. Furthermore no one with the brains God gave geese is going to think the real god is either a white or black person. The probable effect of your efforts is going to be, "Oh look, the retarded kids are upset about something again. I wonder what it could be?" "Do you think they will ever read a history book?" "I doubt they've ever read a comic book cover to cover."

I think you have hit the nail right on the head, butt you don't know it. She is actually pointing out the overlapping of 'religion' and 'politics' in this particular sphere of racism and sexism by the world religions in general and the Christian Church in particular. Religious people are under the delusion that religion is all about and 'understanding of the infinite and eternal' however it is REALLY the greatest political institution on earth as it is created by men All the churches and denominations are patriarchal hierarchies as 'political' as any government in any country. The whole point of religion was to be controlling power in society USING the fear of the infinite eternal and hence unknowable to contain and make a lowest common denominator of people's behaviour. This is the sociological mechanism of religious/political control. They are often interchangeable. Of course organized religion is political. We all know that. And I'll concede that religious ideas themselves cannot help but be political.
But to say that Christianity itself with it's concept of God the Father is sexist and oppressive is absurd. The interpretation of god as a powerful male was an attempt to understand the universe through symbolism. Do you also believe that religions with a supreme mother goddess were a political attempt by females to oppress males? That's as absurd as yours and this silly black woman's theory that Judeo-Christianity is merely a facade to oppress women and minorities.
Please answer my question about whether or not the mother goddess prevalent in most ancient religions was an attempt by females to dominate males and society in general? Or was it just as I believe, the natural extension of our sexual dichotomy into philosophy and theology? Sky god father cults are the flip side of earth goddess mother cults. Methinks these psychosexual memes are greater than your attempt to interpret them with simplistic 21st century liberal feminist ideology.
Make up your mind. Is religion political or not? To answer your question is simple. Any discussion of the earth goddess flip side thing is irrelevant to the point. We are discussing the artistic portrayal of God in Christianity which is overwhelmingly white and male.

We are discussing the artistic portrayal of God in Christianity which is overwhelmingly white and male. No, God the Father is rarely portrayed in Judaism and Christianity. It's akin to blasphemy. William Blake is the only one I've seen do it and his art is sublime. It's a moot point. It would be more stimulating to address issues of theism as a rational atheist than to think this silly black chick has anything important to say on the matter. *sigh* Backflip and deflection and nit picking noted. Since Christians believe that god and Jesus are one and the same, you cannot possibly deny the abundance of art depicting 'holy' figures almost entirely as white and male (Mary excepted of course) All the silly black chick did was point this out!

It's not a backflip. Her point is a silly and theologically vacuous one. I tried to explain to you there is nothing inherently racist and sexist with the Christian godhead. The Holy Ghost is a feminine Dove. Christ was a Semite. The point is irrelevant and this woman is trying to frame it in terms of racism and sexism when it doesn't even apply. The Jewish god is a Sky God. They're always male just as Earth Goddesses are always female. I tried to explain to you these are universal memes which apply to all cultures and religions. It has nothing to do with sexism and racism. As a swarthy Greek I always took exception that Jesus was depicted as an Anglo with blond hair and blue eyes. But it's natural for people to see god as like themselves. I've seen black Christians depict Jesus as black. Big deal. Again your post has confirmed the real point. It is the arbitrary depiction in western art history which does not relate to any 'truth' or historical evidence She merely points this out as do you. ( I have to be careful here when , as an atheist I talk about Christian truth ...my meaning is of truth from the evidence presented which may indeed be lacking and a giant fallacy overall) In other words, it is unlikely that Jesus was white as depicted, and not any more certain (despite your claims that he must have been) that God was male.

You need to read Camille Paglia. It's not entirely related to this topic. But Paglia's a feminist who understands symbolism and universal memes in religion. That's what's at play here. Not this silly woman's very myopic interpretation. I didn't say Jesus was white. But he was certainly a Semite. They're sometimes thought of as white, sometimes not. Again you misunderstand. I didn't say that Jesus was white, either. I said that he was 'depicted' as white in Western art. How can her view be 'myopic' when she is merely pointing out another 'myopic' view of Jesus/God being white and male?
