My preference of the series...
1.Mission Impossible (1996) - 7.5-8/10 -.Mission Impossible III (2006) -.Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation (2015) 4.Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol (2011) - 7/10 5.Mission Impossible II (2000) - 5/10 (Thumbs Down)
so in other words... 1st/3rd/5th are all tied for the #1 spot for me.
p.s. but i will say... i used to be a huge fan of MI2 at one point in the past but it does not hold up for me anymore since a re-watch on April 14th 2012 and that's when it went from 9/10+ to a 5/10 (Thumbs Down).

I avoid these films because I cannot forgive them making Jim Phelps a bad guy.

After 20 years, I finally got around to watching a Mission Impossible film last night. And I've got to echo Catman , and I'm guessing so many others over the years, on WTF with Jim Phelps? That character could have been just some random name, and nobody would have batted an eye, everybody else was new, right? I guess internet outrage wasn't a deterrent to such atrocities back when this film was made, lol.

Back in 1996 computers/internet were not mainstream yet as that was more around 1998-2000 before that happened. hell, high speed internet was not even in my area til the year 2000 (i live in Michigan, USA) as i was one of the first to get it in my area according to the guy who installed it. at that time i had Comcast cable internet and if i recall correctly the speed was around 300KB/s which was 50 times faster than the best dial-up basically. so you can imagine the look on my face seeing websites load up on dial-up to Comcast internet as it was massive.
before high speed internet, the internet basically sucked (although at the time it probably still seemed good given people were used to slow internet). because they were much more limited on what they could show on a website simply because with 6KB/s, AT BEST, things took a while to load if websites where graphics heavy (and that was when dial-up was at it's best as i had noticeably slower connection that back when i first got online (less than half of that etc)) it could take a while to load unlike what's it's been for quite some time now where websites load up quite fast with little delay and are much more graphics heavy to. so basically... the internet has only been good since the early 2000's as the 1990's where the bad ol' days.
if that 6KB/s download speed figure does not make much sense for you... for comparison i imagine many peoples internet lines here in the USA are probably 1000KB/s or faster nowadays (maybe even double that etc). even my DSL type of connection from AT&T, which is slower than most high speed internet connections, still does 400-420KB/s or at least 66 times faster than the best dial-up.
p.s. the first computer i had was in 1995. back in 1995 i was 15-16 years old.

Ghost Protocol needs more love! That followed by III and then Rogue Nation.
1 is like in a completely different franchise and I would never watch 2 again ever probably.

I love ghost protocol, I just wish it had ended after the Dubai scene. The India scene can't hold a candle and is so forgettable that when I rewatched the movie and I didn't remember anything

Mission: Impossible (1996)
This one is less of an action movie and more of a mystery/thriller. Add DePalma's style on top of that and these are the reasons the first film is my favorite.
Rogue Nation is a close second though.

I for some reason have never seen the first one, only the 4 sequels.
I liked 4 the best and 2 the least. I was a bit disappointed with Rogue Nation after all the praise it got - I found it somewhat boring and too short.
