seems like that the only thing people agree upon is the 2nd sucked I don't agree with that. I actually like M:I 2 more than Part III and Ghost Protocol. It's dumb fun.

Would anyone have liked MI2 if it had nothing to do with the franchise?

Would anyone have liked MI2 if it had nothing to do with the franchise? it's not terrible, and is kind of fun (phrase is "kind of"), but it is a john woo action film before anything else which improperly aligns with how the series works.

The first one and not really even close for me. I love the claustrophobic atmosphere, the great set pieces, the deceptively simple plot, Cruise's intense and convincing performance and the pulse-pounding climax. That movie is so fun and re-watchable. The sequels boil down to summer action spectacles with mostly generic humor. After MI1, I'd probably rank them: Ghost Protocol, MI3, Rogue Nation, MI2.

These are entertaining yet extremely forgettable popcorn flicks; an assembly of random set pieces and action scenes barely held together by the flimsy plot; Hunt as a character is just Tom Cruise playing the awesome, generic good guy again.
1. Ghost (MI 4) 8/10 2. MI 1 - 7.5/10 3. Rogue Nation (MI 5) - 7/10 ... 4. MI 3 - 5/10 5. MI 2 - 4/10
Never was never able to get through MI 3 and 2 in a second viewing again.

Ghost Protocol is my favortie. MI2 was the worst. It's one of the worst films I've seen. Annoying to hear Ethan whine about Nyah, Nyah, Nyah over and over.

Back in 1996 computers/internet were not mainstream yet I was online in 1996. There were websites just like this one. Aintitcoolnews was one such example. And there was plenty of "internet outrage" on AICN.

President Ackbarâ„¢i see. but i imagine in general things back then were not like they are today in many ways simply because far less people were online and the internet has evolved/changed since then since peoples internet connections were quite slow websites had to work around that limitation so graphics heavy websites where at a minimum which video was not going to happen pretty much. if it did, i am sure it's video quality was total crap (because video compression sucked) and would take forever to load. because i remember some stuff even back around the year 2000 the video quality was pretty weak and a tiny resolution to. even after i got cable internet in that year while stuff loaded up much quicker it still took a while for video compression to improve to where you get a decent level of video quality from videos. but i guess basic text stuff would not be limited much since it's text. plus, it seems like people in general had more respect for others back then than they do now (like since that cell phone generation or the smart phone generations kicked in, crap went out the window) which probably makes it all that much easier for people to throw a huge fit online as you can see a wall of negativity on some high traffic areas online. but anyways, how many people were using those back then? ; i can't imagine it was anything like today's where you got a bunch of replies from many people? ; but i guess back then it was about as good as you could get for the time. either way, thanks for the info

As much as I love Ghost Protocol, Rogue Nation plays out like an even better version of Ghost Protocol.

I've always found them all to be more or less the same. I don't feel there is one which is really bad and one which is really great. Maybe 2 wasn't too good and maybe 4 was a little bit more enjoyable than the others, for me.

Rogue Nation is my favorite, followed by the first film.
