They all follow the same pattern. A bunch of space travelers go into a sleep. The ship wakes them up. They go to another planet. Encounter the alien(s). Multiple deaths which includes at least one body burster. One or two survivors. A rouge android who hates them. Rinse and repeat.
The only one of the bunch, IMO, that was the most original was the sequel Aliens. Anything after that with Rip is not canon. They were just nightmares she had after she returned to earth with Hicks and Newt where they became a family. The end.

"They all follow the same pattern." No they don't, the first was a creepy atmospheric horror film, the sequel was an adrenaline filled action film, the third kind of combined the first two. I guess you could argue the forth was a bit of a retread of the 2nd one. "A bunch of space travelers go into a sleep." That didn't happen in the 3rd or forth. "They go to another planet."
They didn't in the third or forth
"A rouge android who hates them." The androids in the 2nd and third didn't hate them.

If you're talking about the franchise started by Ridley Scott, then yes. Even Scott himself couldn't do anything new with the aliens in Alien: Covenant. When the creator can't do anything new with his creation, then it's clear that it's time to stop.

What sucks is that Scott said he has like 6 more planned. If he'll actually follow through and make them is another story, but if so...yikes.

Ridley Scott Says “The Beast Has Almost Run Out” On ‘Alien’ theplaylist.net/ridley-scott-almost-alien-20171107/“I figured it was a good piece of business to follow through ‘Prometheus,’ which, from ground zero, had good lift-off. So we went to ‘Covenant’ to perpetuate the idea and [revive] the franchise of the ‘Alien.’ I think the beast has almost run out, personally. [On ‘2049’] you’ve got to come in with something else, you’ve got to replace that. And on ‘Blade Runner,’ I think Denis [Villeneuve] was a fantastic choice.” It’s not clear if Scott means the entire “Alien” series is out of juice, or just its original premise, but he’s made it clear for a while now he wants to take the property in a whole new direction. “I think the evolution of the Alien himself is nearly over, but what I was trying to do was transcend and move to another story, which would be taken over by A.I.’s. The world that the AI might create as a leader if he finds himself on a new planet. We have actually quite a big layout for the next one,” he said last month.

Isn't it kinda arrogant to declare something isn't canon because you personally don't like it? Maybe but I don't care. Those crap fests don't count. You mean to tell me she rescued Newt for nothing? Fuck that. They returned to earth and are a family and lived happily ever after. The end.

Without Ripley, yes. The series become irrelevant after 'Alien vs Predator' and is like 'Die Hard' without John McClane but if they make the Ripley/ Sigourney movie they were talking about not long ago I will watch it.

As long as they’re good, I will take more. The alien universe is my favorite. Throw Denis Villeneuve or some other talent in the director’s chair and I’ll be there.
The franchise just needs a fresh vision, that’s all.

Now that Blomkamp's alternate Alien 3 is dead, yeah, I'm good.

The planned but never made Alien 5 was supposed to be aliens on Earth, with Sigourney back as the Ripley clone, along with Winona Ryder's android character. I was waiting for that, it would have been original, at least. Instead, it wasn't till AVP that we got another chapter. I wanted to see the alien ripping through a suburban mall and ripping open some locals, maybe even loose in Manhattan at TRL...is that too much to ask?

I think that they should give the " ALIEN" Franchise over to James Cameron. He Gets It and would Most Definitely Fix It!

Having James Cameron come back, if he did come back, would not be some automatic guarantee that everything would be great again. Just look at Ridley Scott with "Alien: Covenant".

Well James Cameron today isn't the same James Cameron of 1986. No but he is still the Maker of the 2 Highest Grossing Movies (" AVATAR" and " TITANIC") of All-Time.
