90 years ago September 17, 1928 in Herne Hill, London, England, Roddy was born to parents who were enthusiastic about the theatre.
Appearing as a child model as a baby, McDowall appeared in several British films as a boy, debuting in 1938.
His family moved to the United States in 1940 after the outbreak of World War II.
McDowall's American career began with a part in the 1941 thriller Man Hunt, directed by Fritz Lang. Beginning with How Green Was My Valley 1941 he became a household name during the WWII years.
By the end of the 1940's as it goes with all child actors, they grow up, he begun acing at the theatre, and signed with Monogram Pictures.
During the 1950's he relocated to New York and acted mainly on theatre, and on live television theatre and series.
He returned to the movie world early 1960s, now as a young character actor in both movies and on television.
Roddy McDowall left us in lung cancer in 1998, 70 y/o only.
