Do they think it's either so good or so bad that the competition is irrelevant and it doesn't matter when it's released?

There’s really two other movies that I’d be worried about. Into The Spider-Verse and Mary Poppins Returns. The others like Alita or Mortal Engines I cannot see doing that well.

Alita: Battle Angel is a $200 million James Cameron movie. The studio would be pretty gutted if it didn't gross over $50 million opening weekend. Mortal Engines is a $100 million Peter Jackson movie which is bound to receive plenty of interest, especially if the reviews are good.
....That's forgetting Bumblebee because it is likely to be garbage. Even so, it's still a $102 million movie which a lot of kids will want to see.

If James Cameron was directing Alita: Battle Angel, they probably would have. The dude got a large cult following that would easily crush Aquaman. But he's only producing it, so they're safe.

Uh... why do they need to? There is only so much money to go around. Very few families will watch all of those movies.

But lets say you're right. They'll end up picking and choosing. Of the movies coming out end of the year Mary Poppins and Aquaman are the big ones and I honestly believe those will both do well. The others, not as much.

If you’re suggesting February, not only does WB already have a tent pole movie scheduled for that date, but that would also be shortly before the release of CM.

It'll be fine, Aquaman will outgross those two movies.

It'll be fine, Aquaman will outgross those two movies. Maybe. I don't see it outgrossing Mary Poppins though.

There isn't much in theaters at the moment....."The Predator," "The House with a Cock in its Walls"?
And if they are still working on the special effects and need the time then I don't see what is wrong with taking on the Oscar bait with a mid January release. This idea of certain months doing less business is a thing of the past. If people want to go to the movies, they go to the movies.

Don't have to worry about Alita anymore. Fox just moved it to Valentimes 2019.
