Of the few I've seen I really like Welles' version, like a cross between a Dreyer film and a low budget Black Metal video. Admittedly despite my love of classic Japanese cinema, I've somehow managed to have not seen Throne of Blood.

For me, the Welles version is best.
Throne of Blood is quite good too.

I like the Welles, but I prefer the Polanski. Enjoyable picture, and the always-good Francesca Annis is excellent against type as Lady Macbeth.
I have to see Throne of Blood.

A Performance Of Macbeth (1979). British TV film based on a RSC stage production. Ian McKellen and Judi Dench are the Macbeth couple and both excel, esp. Dame Judi. She is the best Lady Macbeth I have ever seen. An experienced cast of British Shakespearean actors fill out the cast, which includes Ian McDiarmid - Emperor Palpatine himself - who doubles as the nobleman Ross and scores as the Porter in the famous comedy interruption that comes between the King’s murder and its discovery. Available on YouTube and DVD.
