Ha, I was going to say both those two when I saw this question. The sequels weren't exactly great but there was definitely a noticeable improvement on the first which were just bad, more so in the case of Ouija.

Star Trek: The Motion Picture (It's not bad, but it's just average.) Star Trek V: The Final Frontier X-Men: The Last Stand Madagascar (I wasn't a fan of the first film, but the sequels were much better.) Fast & Furious (2009) Mission: Impossible II

Only 2 examples spotted..
I rated both under siege and captain america: the first avenger 4/10...with higher ratings for sequels.

'Ghoulies.' I don't hate the original movie but 'Ghoulies 2' was far better and it is a common opinion I have heard from a lot of Horror fans I know.

Episode I, X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Annabelle are the only ones I can think of that are even close to being actually bad.

I thought about putting X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but The Wolverine is more of a sequel to X-Men: The Last Stand. Logan is pretty much stand-alone. And while I haven't seen it yet, I hear Deadpool 2 retcons Origins out of existence.

Predator 2
(just kidding)
I really can't think of a superior sequel to a "crappy" movie. There have been some sequels that are better than their predecessors which were themselves good movies.

And while I haven't seen it yet, I hear Deadpool 2 retcons Origins out of existence. True, but Origins was a much worse film overall than The Last Stand. Also, the Wolverine and Deadpool movies are pretty much spinoffs to the main X-Men films anyways. Not really sequels/prequels, but it's own thing in itself. The canon/timeline is pretty screwed up as it is, so it's OK to consider then separate from the main series imo.
