On numerous films and TV series, especially crime series, there are shots of uniformed police officers and plain-clothes detectives talking on car phones while driving. Have there ever been instances of accidents occurring while the drivers were so distracted, on film and IRL?
In many states, there are laws against civilians talking or texting on their phones while driving. Are there any such laws for government officials as well? If not, there should be! Maybe a statute requiring two in a vehicle, with one driving and the other communicating with higher-ups.

Back in CLASSIC MOVIE DAYS, the on the street policeman often went to a call box to call in to the Police Station. OR they would rap their night stick on the sidewalk to get the attention of the other policemen in the area. OR they called from a regular phone booth or used the phone at the scene of the crime
In "truly" CLASSIC FILM days, phones in a car were pretty much something for sci-fi films. In neo-classic films they did appear on occasion, but they were not commonplace and were often in the bad-guys limo and not a police car.

Early in the movie MILDRED PIERCE, a cop stopped Joan Crawford from jumping off a bridge by banging his nightstick on the metal railing. This cop actually spoke the first line of dialogue in the film, "What's on your mind, lady?"
But I digress from the theme of this thread. Sorry.
