C's Stargirl has found its lead with School of Rock actress Brec Bassinger being cast as Courtney Whitmore. The upcoming TV series will debut on DC Universe, which launched on Sept. 15. The show's first season will consist of 13 episodes. EW reports that Brec Bassinger will play the lead role of Courtney Whitmore in Stargirl. The 19-year-old actress has starred in Nickelodeon's Bella and the Bulldogs and Hulu's All Night. Johns says "there is no other actor on the planet who embodies her more than Brec Bassinger." Bassinger will be the third actress to play a live-action Stargirl. The character was played by Britt Irvin in Smallville, and by Sarah Grey in the second season of The CW's Legends of Tomorrow. The character's official description offers plenty of details on what to expect from Bassinger's "smart, athletic and above all else kind" Courtney Whitmore: his high school teenager’s seemingly perfect life hits a major speedbump when her mother gets married and her new family moves from Los Angeles, California to Blue Valley, Nebraska. Struggling to adapt to a new school, make new friends and deal with a new step-family, Courtney discovers her step-father has a secret; he used to be the sidekick to a superhero. ‘Borrowing’ the long-lost hero’s cosmic staff, Courtney becomes the unlikely inspiration for an entirely new generation of superheroes. The description confirms the show's interpretation of Stargirl's origin story, which comes straight from the comic books and involves Whitmore becoming a superhero after learning of her stepfather's secret past. In the comics, she uses the cosmic staff of Starman and the gear of the Star-Spangled Kid, which was found in her stepfather's belongings. Her stepfather was S.T.R.I.P.E, a sidekick to The Star-Spangled Kid aka Sylvester Pemberton. Created in 1941, Pemberton was a superhero in the Golden Age of Comics and a member of the Justice Society of America. Following in his footsteps, Whitmore eventually joins the Justice Society and becomes a mainstay of the group. It was revealed at SDCC 2018 that Stargirl's mission in the series will be to "bring back the legacy of the Justice Society," which means that Stargirl may become the leader of a new iteration of the classic superhero team. It's unclear what young new heroes will join her on her journey, or how her story will connect with the original group. However, Johns has promised that "all the Justice Society heroes" will appear. screenrant.com/dc-stargirl-tv-show-brec-bassinger-cast/

I don’t know about this. I haven’t seen her in anything before and I wasn’t consulted about the casting. Have you seen her in anything? She’s not a vampire is she?

This is the first time I have heard of Brec too. I don't think she's a vampire but she was in a Nickelodeon TV movie called Liar Liar Vampire which I have never seen.

I've seen most of her acting credits and I think she will do great.

Man. Things changed from when I was a kid. The kid who pretended to be a vampire would be shunned, not become a celebrity. I know this from personal experience.

Thanks for posting this hardball. Like others on this thread I am not very familiar with the actress's other work either but I am hoping she turns out to be the right choice for the show and it is good 'cause I believe 'Stargirl' has a lot of potential and Geoff Johns writing it himself gives me even more faith in the show. Rather than create a new thread I thought I would share this with you and other members here. By the way, did you know there is a Disney movie called 'Stargirl' coming out soon too? Geoff Johns Hints About The Future of Stargirl And (Possibly) Seeing Nightwingwww.bleedingcool.com/2018/10/06/geoff-johns-hints-about-the-future-of-stargirl-and-possibly-seeing-nightwing/

Marvel has a Stargirl too? Just when you think superhero movies couldn’t get more confusing they are going to have 2 superheroes with the same name.

Well, Disney's Stargirl is not a superhero movie. It's an adaption of the 2000 YA novel of the same name. It will be debuting next year on their streaming service.

Disney's 'Stargirl' movie is going to be completely different than the 'Stargirl' TV show and there won't be many people confusing them with each other 'cause the movie is not a superhero movie. I am interested in seeing what the movie turns out to be like 'cause it is a very popular novel and some sites are saying it could be a big hit. There was also a sequel called 'Love Stargirl' so if the movie is successful we might see that too. Speaking of movie adaptions of novels and sequels I am hoping we find out more information about 'A Dog's Journey' soon.

Disney does their best work when they are making animation. Their live in action movies are alright but are secondary to the classics.

It is going to be a live action movie and while I agree with you that Disney does their best work when they are making animated movies they have made some good live action movies over the years and this could be one of them and I read it is going to star Grace VanderWaal who was one of the winners of 'America's got Talent.' Speaking of casting actors DC just made a huge casting with none other than Luke Wilson playing Courtney's Step Father, Pat Dugan (Stripe) and this must be one of the biggest names they have ever signed for a superhero TV show.

Luke Wilson? The guy from Legally Blonde? Holy shit. What is he doing in a superhero tv show? Is Owen going to be in it too and Vince Vaughn? What happened to Vince Vaughn? I haven’t seen him in anything for years. Did he give up his acting career to become a fisherman?

Vaugh apparently has a role in the film Fighting With My Family which is a biopic about WWE Diva Paige that The Rock helped produce, he's also been in atleast 1 film a year since 2015 but he just hasn't had those 3-4 films a year years since 2013, but he has had a history of making a shit ton of films for a few years then doing nothing for a year or so, he's probably made enough money that if he is smart with it he doesn't "need" to work that much is my guess.

Yes. It is that Luke Wilson but he is sadly not bringing Reese with him. Imagine if Reese Witherspoon had got a female superhero role. She pulled off playing a badass role in 'Freeway' and might have been able to do it. It was a shame we never got a proper sequel to that with Vanessa grown up 'cause I would have loved to have seen her play an older version of that role. Dazz . Is the 'Fighting With My Family' movie really based on Paige's real life is part of it fictional 'cause I heard somewhere it was like a mockumentary of the things she had to face before she made it into the WWE. Not that I am complaining about Paige 'cause I think it is great she is getting a movie and we will be seeing that but why Paige and not Lita or Trish Stratus? Both of those are WWE legends and you think they would have got their own movies before Paige when it comes to making movies about female wrestlers. I would love to see a Lita movie.

Both of those are WWE legends and you think they would have got their own movies before Paige when it comes to making movies about female wrestlers. I would love to see a Lita movie. The film Fighting With My Family is based on the documentary The Wrestlers: Fighting with My Family, which documented Paige and hey brother Zack's life and lead up to trying out for the WWE, it was made in 2012, The Rock saw the documentary on TV when he was in the UK and fell in love with it and Paige's story, as to why her and not Lita or Trish, because WWE didn't make the documentary Channel 4 over here in the UK did, Paige is from a wrestling family her mother and father are wrestlers as are her brothers, both her parents and her older brother Roy are wrestlers, her parents each run their own wrestling promotions, so theres more story there to tell and obvious prior to them making it big unlike Lita or Trish who until they became WWE superstars no one really knew who they were.
WWE could do films about their lives or careers I guess but that depends on if the ladies would even allow it, Paige's family already consented to an actual documentary about most of the film, agreeing to let The Rock make a movie about it is a no brainer.
From what I know it's mostly legit, Vaughns character is an amalgamation of multiple characters including some actual conversations Paige had with Dusty Rhodes, but from what she said a lot of the film is based on real stuff, only thing she said is the other women in WWE/NXT weren't as nice to her coming in as the film makes out but then she was also a bit of a bitch so they just softened that up a little but not by much.
But this wasn't a WWE thing it was The Rock, WWE just again went sure no problem and hitched themselves to it, in truth Trish would be a great story similar to Paige but from a different perspective instead of the goth 2nd gen "real" wrestler who achieved her dream, Trish was the fitness model who couldn't work who dedicated herself to her craft and became THE Diva for her generation and showed with hard work you can become one of the greats, Lita on the other hand well lets just say how she got in the biz isn't all that PG from what I hear, she played 2nd fiddle to Trish most her career where her success was also largely tied to the men she was associated with which includes her getting on of the bigger pushes in her life once it came out she was a no good cheating bitch...that aint PG, would make for a good porn maybe j/k kind of...
Nah Lita was a great talent but her real life stuff I doubt is something WWE would want to document, not with how they want to sell their product, Paige joked they could do an entire trilogy based on he life after her neck injury prior to her return, but like Lita that aint PG and I could see WWE wanting to clean that shit up considerably.
But yeah out of all the stories in wrestling this is the one that got made into a feature film first that's kind of funny, I want a feature film of the greatest ribs and road stories in wrestling, like Mr Fuji getting in the car and giving the guy directions to the building to where it took them 3 hours to arrive, then on the way back Fuji drove and got them home in 5 minutes because he was fucking with the guy, or when he overnight snuck over to his neighbours and stole the engine out of his car without him knowing, some of the stories are so funny and odd they need to re-enacted on camera.

Okay. No. I never saw the documentary the movie is based on and I think I might have heard about it on one of the wrestling sites I look at but it never aired here in Australia to my knowledge or I would have watched it ‘cause I liked Paige from back when she was on NXT and I also liked Emma and I was disappointed that they were able to build Paige up on the main roster but they didn’t give Emma the same push and some people say it was her character but I disagree ‘cause they put her with Santino the moment she was brought up and for months she hardly wrestled and she was mostly used her as a comedic character and I think if they had just brought Emma up the same way she was on NXT and had her wrestle and win multiple big matches she would have succeeded on the main roster.
It is amazing how much NXT changed the Women’s Division for WWE and I will give praise to TNA for changing things too ‘cause while WWE were having 2 minute Diva matches with Kelly Kelly, the Bella Twins, Eve Torres and Kaitlin TNA were having female wrestlers in Street Fights, Cage matches, Table matches, Last Knockout Standing matches, Iron Woman matches, Full Metal Mayhem (TLC) matches, First Blood matches, Money In the Bank (6 Women Ladder match) matches etc and for 5 + years TNA was slaughtering the WWE Divas Division with their Knockouts Division. Then NXT got rebooted after being a competition show that went nowhere during its final season and we got Paige, Emma, Sasha, Charlotte, Bayley, Summer Rae, Alexa Bliss etc and the Women’s division on NXT was on fire and had more fans talking about female wrestling in WWE than there had been since Mickie James left.
Paige was a big part of that and it was her feud with Summer Rae I feel pushed her up to the top and I have to feel for Summer Rae ‘cause while she wasn’t the greatest wrestler she did play a part in the rise of the Women’s Division and was also the driving force behind turning Sasha Banks heel and she got brought up to the main roster as a dancer for Fandango. The BFF’s feuded for months with Paige and Emma and eventually Charlotte took Summer Rae’s spot in the team and fans who didn’t watch NXT back then don’t realise how funny it is to see Bayley and Sasha as a tag team ‘cause they HATED each other’s guts in NXT and feuded for ages and I never thought they would become a tag team and was expecting WWE to put Bayley with Carmella and Sasha with Charlotte again at some point.
It is sad Paige’s wrestling career ended so early but I think she could end up coming back like Daniel Bryan and I remember reading on the wrestling news sites her Doctors were saying it was possible at some time she could wrestle again. Paige is still very young and is only 26 and she might return when she is 30 and wrestle for a number of years and win more titles. I am excited over Beth returning and I hope she stays on and has some singles matches and I think if her comeback is only temporary they might still put her in a singles match with Nia Jax. You are right about WWE maybe having to censor or cut down some of Lita’s story but I think they could do it and it would be fun to see and I would love to see a Mickie James movie too and Mickie was my favourite when she was in TNA but since she returned to WWE they have sadly mishandled her and put her right down to the bottom instead of being one of the faces of the Women’s Division like she was in TNA. They should really give this back to her.
