The film Fighting With My Family is based on the documentary The Wrestlers: Fighting with My Family, which documented Paige and hey brother Zack's life and lead up to trying out for the WWE, it was made in 2012, The Rock saw the documentary on TV when he was in the UK and fell in love with it and Paige's story, as to why her and not Lita or Trish, because WWE didn't make the documentary Channel 4 over here in the UK did, Paige is from a wrestling family her mother and father are wrestlers as are her brothers, both her parents and her older brother Roy are wrestlers, her parents each run their own wrestling promotions, so theres more story there to tell and obvious prior to them making it big unlike Lita or Trish who until they became WWE superstars no one really knew who they were.
WWE could do films about their lives or careers I guess but that depends on if the ladies would even allow it, Paige's family already consented to an actual documentary about most of the film, agreeing to let The Rock make a movie about it is a no brainer.
From what I know it's mostly legit, Vaughns character is an amalgamation of multiple characters including some actual conversations Paige had with Dusty Rhodes, but from what she said a lot of the film is based on real stuff, only thing she said is the other women in WWE/NXT weren't as nice to her coming in as the film makes out but then she was also a bit of a bitch so they just softened that up a little but not by much.
But this wasn't a WWE thing it was The Rock, WWE just again went sure no problem and hitched themselves to it, in truth Trish would be a great story similar to Paige but from a different perspective instead of the goth 2nd gen "real" wrestler who achieved her dream, Trish was the fitness model who couldn't work who dedicated herself to her craft and became THE Diva for her generation and showed with hard work you can become one of the greats, Lita on the other hand well lets just say how she got in the biz isn't all that PG from what I hear, she played 2nd fiddle to Trish most her career where her success was also largely tied to the men she was associated with which includes her getting on of the bigger pushes in her life once it came out she was a no good cheating bitch...that aint PG, would make for a good porn maybe j/k kind of...
Nah Lita was a great talent but her real life stuff I doubt is something WWE would want to document, not with how they want to sell their product, Paige joked they could do an entire trilogy based on he life after her neck injury prior to her return, but like Lita that aint PG and I could see WWE wanting to clean that shit up considerably.
But yeah out of all the stories in wrestling this is the one that got made into a feature film first that's kind of funny, I want a feature film of the greatest ribs and road stories in wrestling, like Mr Fuji getting in the car and giving the guy directions to the building to where it took them 3 hours to arrive, then on the way back Fuji drove and got them home in 5 minutes because he was fucking with the guy, or when he overnight snuck over to his neighbours and stole the engine out of his car without him knowing, some of the stories are so funny and odd they need to re-enacted on camera.
It is amazing how much NXT changed the Women’s Division for WWE and I will give praise to TNA for changing things too ‘cause while WWE were having 2 minute Diva matches with Kelly Kelly, the Bella Twins, Eve Torres and Kaitlin TNA were having female wrestlers in Street Fights, Cage matches, Table matches, Last Knockout Standing matches, Iron Woman matches, Full Metal Mayhem (TLC) matches, First Blood matches, Money In the Bank (6 Women Ladder match) matches etc and for 5 + years TNA was slaughtering the WWE Divas Division with their Knockouts Division. Then NXT got rebooted after being a competition show that went nowhere during its final season and we got Paige, Emma, Sasha, Charlotte, Bayley, Summer Rae, Alexa Bliss etc and the Women’s division on NXT was on fire and had more fans talking about female wrestling in WWE than there had been since Mickie James left.
Paige was a big part of that and it was her feud with Summer Rae I feel pushed her up to the top and I have to feel for Summer Rae ‘cause while she wasn’t the greatest wrestler she did play a part in the rise of the Women’s Division and was also the driving force behind turning Sasha Banks heel and she got brought up to the main roster as a dancer for Fandango. The BFF’s feuded for months with Paige and Emma and eventually Charlotte took Summer Rae’s spot in the team and fans who didn’t watch NXT back then don’t realise how funny it is to see Bayley and Sasha as a tag team ‘cause they HATED each other’s guts in NXT and feuded for ages and I never thought they would become a tag team and was expecting WWE to put Bayley with Carmella and Sasha with Charlotte again at some point.
It is sad Paige’s wrestling career ended so early but I think she could end up coming back like Daniel Bryan and I remember reading on the wrestling news sites her Doctors were saying it was possible at some time she could wrestle again. Paige is still very young and is only 26 and she might return when she is 30 and wrestle for a number of years and win more titles. I am excited over Beth returning and I hope she stays on and has some singles matches and I think if her comeback is only temporary they might still put her in a singles match with Nia Jax. You are right about WWE maybe having to censor or cut down some of Lita’s story but I think they could do it and it would be fun to see and I would love to see a Mickie James movie too and Mickie was my favourite when she was in TNA but since she returned to WWE they have sadly mishandled her and put her right down to the bottom instead of being one of the faces of the Women’s Division like she was in TNA. They should really give this back to her.
Not likely about Paige, her issue isn't concussions but a neck injury that is akin to Edge & Stone Cold's, it's not that it's injured now but that her prior injuries have left her in the state where she could wrestle on it for 10 years and be fine or she could take a single bump and it jar her neck wrong and she could be turned into a paraplegic or something, supposedly it will heal but it will take years to do so, Paige joked in an interview that whilst she could eventually come back she doubts anyone will want to see her do so at 45, which is sad and very unfortunate.
I love Mickie but she'd be like a Lita with her past, also no way WWE wouldn't censor the shit out of her story, one of the big reasons her WWE career soured was because she had an affair with Cena during her big push, which resulted in her fiancé getting fired and her getting dumped on SD after Cena didn't want to take the relationship further than being hump buddies, Cena got off scot free and Mickie got ridiculed for being "fat" on global TV for months...way to be a star WWE, you cunts.
As for TNA yeah they were gret, and terrible at the same time, I think the original run of the KO division is what opened peoples eyes when it was Gail Vs. Kong and all of that where the KO's were getting higher ratings than the likes of Angle vs. Sting, then Russo got nervous because he had no hand in booking that stuff and that's when the KO's just became another part of the show as he took over the writing for them, but their initial success proved that people will watch women's wrestling in droves if you treat them seriously which is great.
