Beat Cops, Cops on the Street, Cops without a desk or an office. Must be a lot of them in movies, just walking the beat and keeping the citizenry safe from the hoods, crooks and criminal types. Essays and images (as always) welcome and encouraged:
Starting off with a favorite … While not yet a classic One of the Best COPS in Movies Danny Muldoon ONLY THE LONELY"A Chicago cop must balance loyalty to his overbearing mother and a relationship with a shy funeral home worker. " Delightful cast with Maureen O'Hara hilariously playing against type as mom. Candy and Quinn are terrific. Possibly slated to become a classic in a few years … worth a watch !

My favorite beat cop -- William Holden as 'Bumper Morgan' in the TV-Movie THE BLUE KNIGHT (he won an Emmy for the role).
The author of the book it was based on was Joseph Wambaugh who was an LAPD officer for several years before becoming a novelist -- so he knew the territory.

Edgar Dearing Seen above in Swing Time, Dearing must have been among the most prolific portrayers of uniformed cops, doing so in at least 150 films, appearing as well as an assortment of detectives, sheriffs and the odd prison or studio guard here and there in the course of his 40-year film and TV career.

This famous iconic image comes to mind from The Kid (1921). American Character actor Tom Wilson is credited as the uncredited "Cop on the Street" Wilson was also in Chaplin's wonderful A Dogs Life (1918) as a street cop on the beat keeping an ever watchful eye on the tramp. A Dogs Life (1918)

The great Sir Sean in The Untouchables. I couldn't resist to post a pic of my own avatar, Sigge Fürst, who played "hundreds" of friendly policemen on the beat.
