Any fans of these two ultra-prolific, anything goes Japanese directors. Who do you prefer, and what is your favorite film from each? I’ve seen 12 films from each, which is a relatively small proportion of their filmographies, particularly Miike, who’s up to over 100. Miike's best from what I’ve seen would be his very restrained and respectful remake of Kobayashi’s masterpiece Hara-kiri, though it's arguably not very representative of his work which is usually a lot more OTT and ramshackle. Also quite liked Rainy Dog, Audition, Visitor Q and Over Your Dead Body. My favorite Sono would be his most recent Antiporno, it’s the perfect distillation of all his usual themes and tropes. I also like Strange Circus, his unwieldy magnum opus Love Exposure and TAG. Overall I think I slightly prefer Sono. Hope to check out a bit more from both.
