Ever wondered what might happen if you were to place your ten weekly match selections down on the bookie's counter and say "Right, I'm in!" There would probably be a somewhat confused look on the cashier's face as they gawked at the ink-covered betting slip you'd just offered up. So, never faced with such a bet, the cashier calls their manager. "What's the bet?" the manager snorts confidently. "He - he wants -" stutters the cashier, gazing down at the slip. "He wants to put ten games on." The manager takes the slip, studies it, and finally says "Thank you, sir, what is your unit stake?" You say a pound. "That'll be £1,023, sir," he says, barely concealing his amusement. You hand the stake over.
You've covered all possible outcomes with your ten selections with your 1,023 bets. That's to say, if one loses, the other nine must win. If five lose, the other must five win. You will get a proportionate amount in returns. You've covered all possible permutations.
It's cost you £1,023 but you've hit the jackpot and got eight out of ten correct. The manager half-smiles as he hands over your £5,087.89p winnings.
And lookee here, that's precisely what would have happened had SDM3 placed a block-bet last week. Even one thousand and twenty-three 10p (or 10 cent) bets at full cover would have returned him £508.09p. His correct selections last week included a 5/2 draw and that really upped the ante. 8 out of 10 was a terrific score, it has to be said.
On the other hand, had Weststigers tried his luck for a £1,023 stake, his return would have been precisely £1.28 and a hell of a loss. So it's good to see Bob double last week's tally and contribute to what's turning into quite a close competition, even at this early stage.
This week's big hitters include 6s for Cobalt, Darkshines and Orlando. So a middling weekend for most of us, and not quite as straight forward as it seems, this caper, is it?
Tunaman09 was absent this week but gets 3 points by default. LaFong (with a 62% hit rate at the moment) remains the loner up front.
AJ and Mr Fury will hopefully be sorting things for the next two weeks (many thanks) and I'll be back after the international break.
Triple-checked but any disputes, just shout out.
