Red Sox vs. Indians on ESPN on right now with some broad in the booth.
If you want to be 'Politically Correct' - more power to ya - I can't listen to Doris Burke and the NBA too.
Chicks commentating games?
Yay or Nay
Go!!!!

Is the question : Can you listen to a game commentated by a woman ?
OR
Does some dopey broad belong in the booth ?
These are 2 completely different questions. Nothing shits me more than a woman on the sideline who is basically there because she looks good or has nice tits. Can’t talk, can’t interview, doesn’t know shit - if she were a bloke, she’d be fired. However, if the reverse applies, and she knows what she is doing, I have absolutely no problems at all listening to a female commentator. In Australia we are lucky that we have women who are excellent in this regard, and their looks are frankly second to their abilities as commentators....

I've made it abundantly clear.

I'm talking about you have a 3 hour contest for one of your footy games - it's not the hot sideline chick I'm talking about - it's the 'voice' behind the scenes breaking down play by play as your players well....erm.....kick the ball...........
Is there a chick over there in East Asia who knows what the f*ck she's talking about for 3 hours and and is enjoyable to listen too?

No problems with a woman in the commentary box. What I can't handle is an imbecile or obnoxious twat. As bob says, in Australia none of the female commentators fit into these categories. Sadly plenty of the men do. James Brayshaw and Michael Slater (who was actually decent before he went to a commercial network) are prime examples.

I think women can be just as good at announcing as men, it just depends on the announcer. There are both good and bad female announcers.

I wasn't aware there were sports in Australia other than Surfing and Kangaroo Slaughtering.

Me either

Beth Mowins is fine. Pam Ward seemed to do a lot of early start Penn State games a few years ago, and I didn't mind her either.

Bunch of ex all pros huddled around sets hosted by FOX sloppy second blondes. I'm fine with women, men, cats, raccoons, anyone who knows the game, has a passion for it, & isn't in makeup for 19hrs prior to camera.

Can I? Yes. But whoever that woman was who did that game last week (I wanna say Beth Mowins), I didn't like her. If they find one that doesn't make me constantly think that I'm listening to a woman specifically, if she's just part of the show, then fine.

I'm perfectly fine with it. I also don't buy into the "I hate Joe Buck" bandwagon either so I don't get triggered by announers as easily as most apparently. The only time I hate it is when they're either doubling down on being wrong or are just annoying. I hated whoever was doing the Hawkeyes game against Iowa State I wanna say. The one guy clearly didn't know the rules as they were reviewing a spot of a possible first down. He kept saying he was short because of where his elbow hit and ignoring that while his elbow hit the ground at said spot, the ball was further than the elbow which is what matters. The other guy tried to correct him only to get the reply "I know that, but look where his elbow is. He is clearly short." Shit like that annoys me.
I remember backlash on the woman last year that called the Monday night game with Rex Ryan and I had no issue with her. Don't recall her name but I remember she got so much hate when I was hating on Rex Ryan. There aren't many women that do it so I'm not going to say one is good or one isn't. I don't know the names of any. I will say I'd listen to Katie Nolan or Mina Kimes announce a game anytime. Don't know if they'd be good at it but I'd find them highly entertaining while doing so.

Quite clearly it’s not the same question. And there are plenty of women who I enjoy listening to, as both play by play callers and colour commentators. Kelli Underwood Isa Guha Alison Mitchell Yvonne Sampson Hannah Hollis Jess Yates Neroli Meadows Tara Rushton Mel McLaughlin All girls, all great commentators/reporters/hosts, all know their shit. Aside from the generic Airhead, Tits and Arse on the sideline - I have no problems at all what gender the commentators are. As long as they add to the coverage, and know what they are talking about.

I've never heard of any of these airheads. Do they commentate on Shark Fishing from 'Down Un'DUH'

Smurfbate, I'm with you on Joe Buck and female commentators. I also thought the woman who called a few MLB games a couple of years ago was a perfectly acceptable commentator.
The main criticism of Buck seems to be that he doesn't scream and yell like an idiot when something exciting happens. You have the sound and pictures in front of you. The commentator shouldn't be competing with that, but working with it to tell the story effectively.

But I only watch my team, the AS game, and the playoffs so I missed her. Buck is exactly what I want from an announcer that isn't paid by a specific team to be rooting for them as he's calling the game. He has a nice voice, isn't annoying at all, and he actually knows what he's talking about. Troy Aikman I find annoying simply because I don't always think he knows what he's talking about anymore in terms of todays game. It's why Romo became such a breath of fresh air last year being so recently removed from it. I can't stand Collinsworth either. I wish they'd get more personalities in there as color people. I remember when ESPN first got Monday Night Football they had Tony Kornheiser in there as a 3rd person. I love me some Uncle Tony and I liked the idea sadly it didn't work and since then I think they've been too afraid to try.
