I liked the vastly better early seasons.

The first two seasons were enjoyable, fun and nostalgic. It really does feel like something out of the 50s.
The third season is undoubtedly its best, with some hilarious inspired comedy, as Fonz moves in with the Cunninghams. Henry Winkler does steal the show but the cast is also at their best. I purchased a boxed set of the series at Walmart for about $35 and this season is worth the price. Arnold was much funnier than Al. Ron Howard is nearly as good Winkler. I think he, more than anyone on the show, recognized the tired writing that was staring to pop up later on.
The fourth season is still very good, but with a few misses here and there. Well worth watching.
The fifth is where it starts to nosedive. The infamous 'jump the shark' moment is early. The characters were starting to say the same things over and over for cheap applause. It was annoying.
By season six through the end, it becomes almost unwatchable. I'm surprised it was able to last another five years after this. Each episode it seemed like you could count on Joanie saying 'What a hunk!', Richie with his 'I found my thrill...', Al with his 'Yep yep yep yep', Chachi with his 'Wah wah wah', Ralph with his 'I still got it' and Mr and Mrs C getting 'frisky'. And even Fonz's 'Ayyyy' is nowhere near as 'cool' as in the earlier seasons. Fonz becomes something of a superman by this point. He can do anything! His jumping the shark is mere prelude to the magic he pulls off throughout the rest of the series.
There is one really funny episode later on when Tom Hanks guest stars as a former childhood 'victim' of Fonz's bullying. That is because Hanks is so good in that episode.
That's about it. It's hard to give it an overall grade. The first four seasons I would give a 8/10. The last seven I'd give a 5/10.

The show was good until Fonzie became a cartoon character with magical powers and the show began to revolve around him.
