my fellow americans, what do you prefer to watch at home if u have the choice of either
1. watching a foreing show dubbed over into english
or
2. watching a foreign show in its native language with english subtitles(
let say both options have a good quality of the craft behind it (the subtitles or voices) and its a comedy genre.
and by dubbing over i dont mean speaking over/voiceover but actual actors speaking for the foreign actors.

the research if intenionally focused primarily on the Us market but feel free to offer a perspective of people from other english speaking countries. Well, I don't mind which method is used, provided it is done well and is effective.
It's very annoying to have inaccurate subtitles or badly synced dubbing.

You're an American? Why are your "reviews" only available in Europe in some obscure foreign language newspaper then? Other than anime which usually have excellent dubbing, I prefer subtitles when watching FOREIGN movies or series. Some HK movies in particular tho have hilarious dubbing and I like to watch them dubbed with the subtitles on as well. Often the 2 will be very different. |

As I've learnt from many threads on the subject, most people, not only prefer subtitles but take pride in ridiculing those who prefer dubbing. I prefer subtitles. I don't care what other people do.
