There was at least one. I remember reading about him when he was found sometime in the 1970s. He was very upset to learn that the emperor was no longer revered as a deity.

SAVE FERRISCurious as to what prompted you to ask this particular question…. which was, btw, a pretty good one. There is a movie about a US Marine and a Japanese soldier who are both isolated on an island but I am working on who and what the film was... like MacArthur, "I shall return " and like Ahnuld .. "I'll be back" if'n'when I find the answer to that one. I THINK I know a who ... but .... later !

OldAussie I do think that's it … I remembered it being either Marvin or Mitchum
Yep.... During World War II, an American pilot and a marooned Japanese navy captain are deserted on a small uninhabited island in the Pacific Ocean. There, they must cease their hostility and cooperate if they want to survive, but will they? www.imdb.com/title/tt0063056/?ref_=nv_sr_1Directed by John Boorman! Saw it ages and ages ago but remember enjoying it !

Yeah, Hell in the Pacific is really a great film. The Kino Lorber blu ray is great, looks amazing. Has both endings too, there was an alternate ending shot that is pretty interesting. Definitely worth picking up.
