Gus Van Sant's Psycho. It's one of the most useless movies ever made

Carrie (2013). Almost a shot for shot remake of the original film. Completely pointless and forgettable. The same as with Psycho (1998).

Most replies refer to modern "horror" whose originals were pretty useless to start with.
The Washington-Streep "The Manchurian Candidate" would have been a terrible movie all on its own notwithstanding that it remakes a 1960s masterpiece.
I also submit the following, knowing that many people find it impossible to have anything but praise for Scorsese or the Coens:
Like Van Sant's Psycho, the Coen's "True Grit" was mostly a shot-for-shot remake of Henry Hathaway's 1969 classic.
Scorsese's "The Departed" is a scene-for-scene remake of a superior Hong Kong crime film, even using many of the same camera set-ups from the Chinese film. Anything creative or shocking (including the unexpected "elevator" scene) was lifted straight off the screen from Asia.

I'm a big fan of Scorsese, but the Departed is one of my least favorite movies of his

Terrible and barely recognizable in comparison to the original movie.

Probably Psycho because it’s a remake that really just shouldn’t of happened, and it’s basically the EXACT SAME film. Nobody wants to see that when we already have the timeless original, so it’s pretty pointless.
That isn’t to say it doesn’t have any redeeming factors though. The cast is mostly good (damn you Vince) and they at least tried their best. And while it doesn’t capture the same spirit, it does manage to capture the same atmosphere and style.
So not a good remake by ANY stretch of the imagination but it’s not the worst thing I’ve ever seen.

It tends to be horror movies doesn't it?
The Haunting Halloween The Hitcher Poltergeist
Hated all of these. Haven't seen The Fog, thankfully.

When a Stranger Calls (2006) was a real wet noodle compared to the legendary original.

I don't watch a lot of horror movies so I haven't seen most of the movies listed here so far.
The worst remake I've ever seen is probably 'Dinner for Schmucks' with Steve Carell. The original, the French comedy 'Le Diner de Cons', is probably my favourite comedy, one that can still make me laugh even after several viewings. The Hollywood remake is unfunny and cringe-worthy.
