Well, I really liked it.
I stayed away from it at first because I'm not really a Glenn Close fan, but I'm a fan now.
I've got it in my iTunes library and I've seen it several times.

My favorite sort-of-subtle part of the movie...
On the airplane heading to Stockholm, Joe is working on some kind of open notebook and he asks Joan (in kind of a needy way) if she wants to take a look at "this" (what he's been writing in the notebook). She says she'd rather keep looking at her crossword puzzle.
At the end of the movie after he has died, she's flying home next to her son and opens Joe's notebook. If you look closely, you can see that it's a list of ideas for a new book. "A man goes to Ireland and...", etc.
She turns the page of the notebook and affectionately rubs the completely empty page with her hand - and she smiles.
She has a blank slate to do whatever she wants with her writing now, I guess.
I like her smile here.

ive heard the flashbacks are weakest aspects. Yeah - I don’t dislike them, but I didn’t think the younger pair had much chemistry - and the other people in those scenes weren’t all that realistic as 50s and 60s people. It’s the older people’s movie - and Christian Slater.

By the way, I read the book today.
It was described as a dark comedy so I had to read it. The movie seemed more like a drama.
The book starts out with a hilarious narrative about a husband Joan intends to leave - and the book is entirely in her voice as the narrator.
What’s been going on in her life isn’t really funny, though, and I think the whole story of their life together (as presented in the book) is worth reading.
I loved the book and I’m glad I read it.
